William Burns Obituary

BURNS, William Patrick - At the age of 74, Bill passed away peacefully at home from complications due to Parkinson's disease on February 28th, 2008. Beloved husband of 44 years of Valerie Rains Burns of Santa Rosa. Brother of Mary Lipson and George and Jack Burns. Cherished father of Bill Jr. (Nancy), Kathleen, Laura, and Mike (Tricia). Adoring grandfather of Elisha, Stephanie, Seth, Brittnay and Michael. Bill was proud to be 100% Irish, and born on St. Patrick's Day in 1933 in Chicago. He grew up playing sports, and listening and laughing with his siblings and cousins at the ever-changing family stories told and retold by his family and their friends. Bill and Valerie were married in Coral Gables, Florida on November 30th, 1963. Bill believed Northern California was the most beautiful place to live in all the world. Bill was a long-time regular on the tennis courts on Saturday mornings at the Wikiup Racket and Swim Club. He was an active member of the parish at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He loved comedy and musicals, and could spot an ice cream store in a crowded strip mall from half a mile away. After his retirement from the insurance industry, he served on the Sonoma County Grand Jury. He spent much of his time assisting the local food bank, and helping others in need with a ride to an appointment, a kind word, and a laugh. Those close to him have decades of memories of his delightful wit and sense of humor. Family and friends are grateful for the love and wisdom he so freely shared with them. Special thanks to care givers Isabel and Maria Banuelos. We invite you to join with us as we celebrate Bill's life and love on Monday, March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 8400 Old Redwood Highway in Windsor, followed by a gathering at Bill and Valerie's home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.

Uncle Bill was a great, funny, lovely man! Even from far away, I miss him and feel the world is poorer with him gone.
Although, as my mother points out, the party in Heaven is getting livelier and livelier -- makes me wanna get there...
Love and prayers to all you cousins & Aunt Val.
