Yolanda Rolando Obituary

Yolanda Rolando
February 24, 1925 - September 14, 2024
Yolanda Rolando died peacefully in her home on September 14, 2024 surrounded by family and friends.
She was born in Mexico and came to the United States in 1928, where her family settled in Almaden Valley, Ca. She was the oldest and last surviving of six children. She graduated from Campbell High in 1942, and shortly thereafter, she moved with her family to San Francisco, where she worked as an iron welder during World War II. There she met her husband of 46 years, Felix "Tony" Rolando.
Yolanda moved to Petaluma in 1968. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. James Church, where she volunteered much of her time to church functions including the annual Christmas bazaar where she donated a few of her crocheted afghans. She enjoyed crocheting ornate angels which she often gave as gifts.
She enjoyed playing tennis & quick trips to Reno where she would play the penny slots. She enjoyed working in her garden, and reading spiritual books. She had a great sense of humor, and a way of seeing the good in everything and everyone.
She was a devoted wife and mother to her three children, Maria, Christopher, and Teresa, and an aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was especially devoted to her daughter, Maria, and was very active in the Down's Syndrome community.
She will be remembered for her devotion to God and family. She survived the loss of her husband, Tony, son Christopher, and most recently her daughter, Maria with a strength and faith that was an inspiration to everyone that knew her. If you asked her how she was doing, her response was, Better than yesterday, but not as good as tomorrow! She is survived by her daughter, Teresa and son-in-law, Mark Van Antwerp.
Visitation on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with recitation of rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory; 850 Keokuk Street in Petaluma. Funeral Mass on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church; 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway in Petaluma.

I went to school with her son Chris and lived around the corner. My prayers go out to her family. May the souls of the faithfully departed by the mercy of God rest in peace.

Who in the St. James church community has not been touched at one time or another by Yolanda's Christian heart, keen insight and charitable outreaches? Many of us who interacted with her in years past during our spiritual formation remember Yolanda as a fine mentor with great stories of her early life, especially during World War II as a "Rosie the Riveter" and for, later in life, being a model of devotion to her daughter, Maria; herself a living angel. Together they impacted many lives for the better.
Rest in peace, Yolanda and, yes, you were right. I really did need to curb my pride.
