DAVID OLTMAN Obituary

JANUARY 7, 1938 - JANUARY 9, 2022 It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to David Roebuck Oltman of Hemet, CA who passed away on January 9, 2022. He had just turned 84. Dave was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and long time City of Hemet employee. The youngest of four children, he was born on January 7, 1938 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa to Dr. Roscoe and Edith (nee Roebuck) Oltman. During his youth Dave moved around often, living in various locations in Iowa, Colorado. Missouri and Florida. He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Judith Genovese in 1959, settling on So. Pasadena, CA and eventually moving to Hemet, CA in 1964. During his time in Hemet, Dave was a long time employee of the City of Hemet, serving over 40 years and eventually rising to the position of Public Works Director. A dog park on Cawston Ave in Hemet is named after him. Dave served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve for over 20 years, completing training in Virginia and often patrolling San Francisco Bay. He earned his bachelor and master degrees from Columbia University and always encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue education. In his personal life Dave was a craftsman, building many toys and furniture for his family as well as completing various home improvement projects. He was always a help to anyone who needed it, often displaying a dad-joke sense of humor. A Mason for over 50 years he served as Worshipful Master in 1975 and attended Grand Lodge in San Francisco every year. Dave and Judy were avid travelers visiting Europe and traveling the United States. He was also an animal lover, known for feeding and befriending various cats and dogs. He would catch feral cats around City Hall to spay or neuter them and was a super generous soul in so many ways. Dave is survived by three children: Kimberly (Rahim) Oltman Nikmanesh of Hemet, David J. Oltman of Arizona, Darci (Jeff) Oltman Kahan of Tujunga; three grandchildren: Ashley (Devin) Cantarano of Arizona, Austin Oltman of Arizona, Alexander (Sarah) Nikmanesh of Covina and one great-grandchild, Azelia Cantarano of Arizona. Honorary granddaughter, Jana Peterson. Sister-in-law Marilyn Genovese Elzenga of Washington. His parents, brothers and sister preceded him in death. His cats Minnie Mae, Oreo and Blondie and his grand-dog, Luna. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the ASPCA. Services are Saturday, January 29 at 11 am at the Masonic Lodge in Hemet.
