John Leslie Merrifield

WILDOMAR JOHN LESLIE MERRIFIELD Was born to Leslie and Alena Merrifield on December 17, 1926 in Elsinore, CA. He passed away at home on November 1, 2008 in Wildomar, CA. John was preceded in death by his both his parents, his sister Lilah, his wife of 46 years, Joanna, and his son, David. John leaves behind his wife of 11 years Margrit, sister Lois Smith of Riverside, sons John Jr. of Riverside, Paul of Lake Elsinore, daughters Laurie Snider and Janna Kaas of Lake Elsinore, Beth Vance of Irvine, 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was a son and grandson of a pioneering Elsinore Valley family. He was a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a young man. He spent his life in service to his community and Country, and served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. He began his adult life in Elsinore as a local school teacher and part time United States Postal service employee. Moving forward from that, he was for many years a downtown Elsinore business man owning and operating many businesses throughout his life including an appliance repair business, John's Furniture and Appliances, Montgomery Wards Catalogue store, John's Western Auto store, John's Ambulance, Elsinore Taxi, John's Answering Service and was the local Greyhound bus agent for several years. He was until recently a dispatcher for Brothers Towing. He was since 1956 a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served there in numerous capacities and callings.
