Lawrence McGill Obituary

LAWRENCE HENRY MCGILL Larry was born in Mineola, NY on March 26, 1926 and passed away at the age of 86 on November 26, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Larry was the son of Henry and Madeline McGill and grew up in Mineola. He served in the Navy as a radioman in World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific theatre. After the war, he graduated from St. John's University in Brooklyn, New York in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, his life-long love since he was 8 years old. Larry married Alice Janosick in 1948 and had five children. His work as a chemist moved him and his family around from New Jersey to Ohio and finally to Riverside, California. Larry was an avid golfer and a member of Riverside's Victoria Country Club. He and Alice enjoyed vacations in Las Vegas, Nevada. Larry and Alice were married for 34 years until her death in 1982. In 1984, Larry met and married Ramona Carlson. In 1991, when Larry retired, he and Ramona left the Riverside area in their motor home and traveled the country for nearly four years before settling in Las Vegas, Nevada for the remainder of their 28 year marriage. Larry is survived by his wife Ramona & step-daughter Daphne; his & Alice's five children: Linda Caruth of Boonton, NJ, Michael McGill of Vista, CA, Carol Fronk of Albany, NY, Joanne Rubio of Huntington Beach, CA and Leslie Londos of Hailey, ID; eleven grandchildren; six great grand-children, and one on the way; and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by his two brothers, George McGill of Levittown, NY and Allen McGill of Tamarac, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Alice and his sister Jean Gundel. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Riverside, California.
