Yoshiye Doi

1920 - 2013

YOSHIYE DOI Age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Riverside on November 2, 2013. Yoshiye was born July 28, 1920 in Los Angeles. Afterwards, the Ushio family returned to Japan where she grew up. In 1938 she returned to California to join her husband Frank Koso Doi. During World War II the Doi family spent four years at the Manzanar Relocation Camp. After the camp was closed the family moved to Venice, California where they started growing celery. In 1960 the family moved to Riverside to continue their farming tradition and raise vegetable plants at their nursery. Yoshiye was a kind and wonderful woman who enjoyed cooking traditional Japanese meals for her family. The family will miss her warm caring heart and her "fantastic" cooking. She was deeply loved and will be missed by her family and all who knew her. Yoshiye was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank and her daughter, Shirley. She is survived by daughter Kimiko Iwanaka of Hawaii; three sons, Ted, Kuni (Terri) of Riverside, and George (Mayumi) of Foster City, California; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, November 15th at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave. Riverside with burial following at Olivewood Cemetery, 3300 Central Ave, Riverside.
