Alexander Ernst Obituary

Ernst, Alexander Joseph "AJ", - 45, of Erma, NJ passed away too soon on the evening of December 1, 2023. Alex was born and raised in Lower Township where he grew up with a love for fishing and animals. Alex obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island. Alex rose to become the Assistant Director and Veterinarian at the Cape May County Zoo. Alex was very passionate about his career at the zoo. This could be seen in his excitement which was expressed in many media articles. AJ was well known for his incredible sense of humor and being the king of sarcasm. He was truly the life of every party. He is predeceased by his father Harry Ernst. He will be greatly remembered by all of those that knew him but especially by his loving wife of 10 years, Kira and their two darling girls Lydia and Natalie, his mother Barbara and brother John Ernst.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Parish of St. John Neumann Church of St. Raymond 800 Bayshore Road Villas NJ. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held privately on the grounds of Tabernacle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Alex would like to see donations made to Cape May County Zoo for future generations to benefit and enjoy the wonders of the animal kingdom.

Really so sad to learn of Dr. Ernst's passing. He helped us with our dogs several years ago.

I worked with Alex the zoo when he was still in vet school. Always happy to help anyone and head over heels for the critters of all kinds. I am sorry i did not see him when he was director but i know he was wonderful. Rest in peace with all the animals you have helped. ❤ Regina DeLorenzo VMD

Alex and my son met taking swimming lessons as young boys and played together at our houses. Athough they drifted apart, I'm glad to see that Alex
was successful and his heart was in the zoo.

My sincere sympathy to his family and friends

Gary and I are saddened to hear this news about Alex
We met him at Mill Creek / Brezzy Lee marina . We were new in boating and when we pulled our boat in Alex without hesitation came over to help . One day when he came in after being on a fishing trip my grandkids were so curious and he spent time talking to them ( Even though he I am sure was so tried ) . However he had a calmness that he gave out . We then found out he joined our same Flotilla 86 . He always asked Gary how he was doing. Then asked me Sue did you learn how to bring the boat in yet with a smile . Gary and I want to say to all his loved ones May the Angels surround you and all his loved ones during this time of sadness.
