Cortney Downey Obituary

Downey, Cortney Lynn, - 32, passed away on October 21, 2022, following a motor vehicle accident when a drunk driver, going the wrong way on the Garden State Parkway, struck her vehicle. She was predeceased by her father Michael Downey and brother Justin Downey. Cortney was full of life and could light up the room when she walked in. Her personality was filled with the great qualities of a loving, caring, and selfless friend - although, that wouldn't stop her from telling you how she really felt. Cortney was there for you if you needed a friend regardless of the time of day. In her downtime, you could always find her at the beach, on a boat, or at a waterpark. Dressing up for special occasions was something she very much enjoyed and was pretty darn good at! Cortney leaves behind her beautiful daughter, Brooklyn Marie, 8, who was the light of her life. To say she truly enjoyed motherhood and spending time with Brooklyn would be a huge understatement. Cortney treasured spending time with her niece and nephew, Olivia Rose and James Michael, who she adored as if they were her own. Whether it was breakfast dates with all three kiddos or family BBQs, she took any opportunity she got to spend time with them. There is no denying that Brooklyn and Cortney were inseparable and the best of friends. Brooklyn was and always will be Cortney's greatest accomplishment in life. Cortney will be deeply missed by her mother Tracy Downey, brother Zach Downey, sister Ali Downey, little brother Johnny Katz, and biggest supporters Lois Lombardo & Albert Rolek. Aunt/Uncles Jeff & Kathy Katz, Bert & Dawn Katz, David Downey, Trish Downey, and Phyllis & Barry Cole. Cousins Peter, Kathy, Nicole & Josh DeRosa, Blake & Annie Trabuchi-Downey, Taylor Moran, Ethan, Jake & Jordyn Katz, and Jarred Sorkin. As well as numerous close friends and even more family that if we were to name them all, it would turn into a novel. A celebration of Cortney's life will be held at Wimberg Funeral Home in Galloway on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 11 am to 1 pm, where friends and family are welcome, with service following the viewing at 1pm. A luncheon/repast will be announced at the end of the service for those who wish to attend. We strongly request that you wear COLORFUL clothes and not black attire. Cortney was full of life - let's use this time to celebrate her. We encourage you to bring any photos you may have, as these will be used to create a scrapbook for Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, we graciously ask that you make donations to Brooklyn's College Fund (https://www.ugift529.com Ugift code: T92-Y66) or the GoFundMe that has been established.
