Daniel R. DeMeo M.D.

DeMeo, M.D., Daniel R., - 94, of Margate, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2022. He was born in Atlantic City to Anthony and Evelyn DeMeo and spent his youth growing up with his sister Carmen in the Italian section known as Ducktown. He attended St Michael's elementary school, and then went on to Atlantic City High School where he was Captain of the Football Team. After graduating at age 16 he attended Lafayette College for three years before enrolling in Thomas Jefferson University Medical School where he earned his medical degree in 1951 at the age of 22. In 1952 he married his high school sweetheart Victoria C. Paludi and started practicing medicine. He paused private practice to join the service as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy serving two years of active duty in the Korean War on the USS New Jersey where he was the chief medical officer. He spent the majority of his career practicing at Atlantic Shore Orthopedics Associates where he was one of the founding members. He was team physician for the Holy Spirit High School Football team for many years during the 1960's and 70's. He was the first physician in this area to be present on the sidelines for all games and his home had a constant revolving door of players stopping in for treatment of sports injuries and ailments. His passion for medicine was evidenced throughout his life by his devotion to helping patients. He epitomized the concept of the proverbial hometown doctor. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and loved golf, spending time in his golden years playing in Naples Florida, his warm golf retreat. Above all else he loved being with his family. He is survived by his three children, Suzanne DeMeo Bruno and her spouse Vincent, Dana DeMeo Smyly, and her spouse Jim, and Daniel R. DeMeo, Jr. Also surviving him are seven grandchildren Lindsay, Julia, Tori, Sandra, Carolyn, Daniel, and Allison as well as 9 great-grandchildren along with many other extended family members and dear friends. His love and devotion will be held in all our hearts forever. A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Linwood on Friday, May 27th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.
