Daniel F. Walls
Daniel F. Walls, 84, of Crete, Ill.,, a former long-time Ventnor City, N.J., resident, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025. Born on October 5, 1941, in Atlantic City, N.J., the fifth of six sons of Edward and Catherine Walls. Graduating from Holy Spirit High School in 1959, Dan enlisted in the US Navy and received a medical discharge. Dan went on to begin a career in food stores, starting with the A&P in Ventnor City, where he was quickly promoted to produce manager, continuing a career as a department manager at several food stores in the Atlantic City area. In the mid-80s Dan became a Supervisor of the Fire Command Center at Resorts International Hotel & Casino until his retirement in the late 90s.
Throughout the 60s, 70s, and early 80s, Dan volunteered as a coach and was a leader to several youth athletic programs in Ventnor, including the Ventnor Pirates football program, the Hutch Basketball League and the Ventnor City Little League. He was an exceptional card game player and enjoyed playing pinochle and other card games with family and friends. Dan was a longtime parishioner of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Ventnor, until he relocated to Crete, Ill.
Dan is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, David (Marianne), Donald (Sharon) and Kevin (Connie); Helen's daughters, Donna (Kevin) and Annie (Richard), and his brothers, Thomas (Roseann) and James (Loretta). Dan was so proud of his 19 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Adele (nee Capelli); parents, Edward and Catherine Walls, and brothers, Edward, John and Joseph.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 9 a.m. at St. James Church, 6415 Atlantic Avenue, Ventnor, NJ, 08406 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5061 Harding Way, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan's memory to the Ventnor Pirates Football Association 6004 Burk Ave. Ventnor, NJ 08406, or a
