DORIS ALEXANDER Obituary

ALEXANDER, DORIS JEAN - was born on May 17th, 1927 in Atlantic City N.J. to the late Elder G. Alexander Sr. and Ada Selby and departed from this life of Wednesday, August 28th, 2013 in Tampa Fl. Known as "Beautiful Doris" or Aunt Doris, she attended Atlantic City Public Schools and grad-uated from Atlantic City High School. Doris was formally employed by Manhattan Cleaners and various other Laundries as a presser as well as owning and operating her own Dry Cleaners for a brief period in Atlantic City. Doris was later employed by the Atlantic County Probation Office as a Principal Cashier and retired after many years of service. She was a proud and dedicated member of St. Monica's Church where she served in numerous ministries. She loved bowling with the St. Monica's bowling league with her sisters Thelma and Sylvia and many other family members and friends. Doris always made sure that everyone in the family attended and supported events around St. Monica's Church. Doris enjoyed playing pokeno and Bingo with her best buddy Lois Shepperson and the entire "Pokeno-Bingo Crew". Doris adopted Lois as her own Sister and traveling buddy. After many years of retirement in Atlantic City, Doris moved to Tampa Fl. to be with her youngest sister Sonja Fauntleroy and her nephew and caretaker, Jeffree Fauntleroy and wife Karen. Doris enjoyed car rides around Florida and attending sporting events, involving her nephew Joel. We, the nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, have been blessed to have had Aunt Doris amongst us. She was our provider, protector and promoter. She loved God, her family, her Church and always stated that; "if you're not happy in life that's your fault". Everyday she talked about her family to everyone she met. Everyone she met they became a friend and a fan of Aunt Doris. Doris was pre-deceased by her sisters, Dorothy, Thelma, Sylvia, brothers-Elder Jr, Randolph and Wardell "Pedro" along with nephew- Craig Alexander. She leaves to cherish her youngest sister, Sonja Fauntleroy of Tampa Fl, Nieces, Sharon Alexander of New York, Sandra Yorkshire of Randallstown Md.
