Ethel Maccarone Obituary

Maccarone, Ethel Joan (Spearing), - 92, of Orlando, FL passed peacefully at her home, where she was surrounded by her loving family. In addition to being a wife and mother, Joan worked for the Hammonton Board of Education for 26 years in the cafeteria office and as a cashier. She was active in the Hammonton School PTA and was Vice President and Treasurer. Joan was also involved in The Hammonton Band Boosters and served as Treasurer. She was an avid supporter of the Hammonton HS Marching Band and never missed their performances near or far. Joan was an animal lover and dogs and cats were always a part of the family. She was also a big fan of all football, especially the Eagles. In her younger days, Joan enjoyed roller skating. It was at one of these sessions where she met Angelo. They would marry in 1955 and be together for over 62 years, until his passing October 19, 2017. Joan was an amazing cook, especially Italian. She also made the most delicious cookies at Christmas, spending hours chopping pounds of walnuts by hand. Joan was a great dancer and loved to jitterbug. She also loved playing slot machines at various casinos. Joan also enjoyed playing cards and played until just before her passing. After retirement, she began working for Michael at his restaurant "The Eatery" as hostess and she would sit and converse with many patrons. In addition to Angelo, Joan was also predeceased by her parents Ethel Palmer, Irving Palmer and Chester Spearing. Joan is survived by her children Michael Maccarone (Christine Carvelli), Kathleen Sartorio (Robert), Cynthia Reinhard (Theodore); her half brothers James Palmer and William Spearing (Sue); stepsisters Patricia Gillum (Frank) and Wanda McHenry; sisters-in-law Ruth (Maccarone) Connaught, Phyllis (Maccarone) Lisanti (Joseph) and many nieces and nephews. Joan had three grandchildren, whom she loved and was proud of, Brandi Reinhard, Kerrilynn Maccarone (Eric Yowaiski), and Lisa (Maccarone) Castro (Jonathan); two stepgrandchildren Robert Sartorio Jr (Renata) and Barbara Russell (Brandon); and five great-grandchildren. Joan knew her time was near, but wanted to wait for the birth of her great grandson Elio Fish Maccarone-Yowaiski to arrive. She got her wish as he was born on March 25, 2024.
