James Egan Obituary

Egan, James, - Egan, James, 77 of Ashland, Oregon (formerly of Atlantic City) passed away at his home on May 10, 2024, after a brief illness. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Jimmy was born and raised in Atlantic City. He attended Our Lady Star of the Sea, Holy Spirit High School, and Monmouth College.

Predeceased by his parents James and Doris; and sister Kathleen. He will forever be remembered by his wife Jenni; children Kellye (Chris), Molly (Chelson), Max (Kara) and Jacob (Daniella); along with grandchildren Reef, Amari, Beau, Helen, Danny, Charlotte, Violet, and Warren. Also, previous wife Micki McCollister; his sister Michele (Jim); brothers William (Dianne) and Brian (Karen).

Jimmy grew up the quintessential Jersey beach boy, surfing, swimming, and waterskiing. He loved to fish the back bays with his father and brothers and never said no to a quick dip off a dock. The eldest of five, Jimmy was the trailblazer, the first to throw off the bow lines to go adventure beyond Chelsea Avenue. Early on he pursued a career in education as a teacher but would be a student of life throughout his last days. A constant curiosity for the new and unknown brought him through a series of life's paths including farming in Iowa where he raised his young family. He had an incredible knack for storytelling, captivating listeners to deliver bits of wisdom, a smart quip and initiate infectious laughter. When his daughters decided to call Hawaii home, he encouraged their adventurous decision and eagerly adopted the Aloha spirit. Jimmy eventually was called to the mountains of Oregon where he met Jenni and fell in love. Their love was evident in their shared zest for life and ability to have fun. In their 21 years together, they worked to evolve their beautiful country residence, traveled near and far to places such as the Oregon Coast, the redwoods, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Italy, and Southeast Asia. They loved spending time at home with friends and family and were well known for their holiday parties and other lively gatherings. They were blessed with eight joyful grandchildren whom they loved spending time with whom affectionately called them Pop-Pop and Tutu. On his 75th birthday Pop-Pop could be found putting the final touches on the custom playhouse he made for his grandkids. Just as there was never enough ice cream for Jimmy there will never be enough time for his family and friends to have enjoyed his time on Earth.

A celebration of life will be held in Oregon over the summer.

I first met Jim when he worked for Long Beach Island and later grew to know him as my sister´s husband. Many years have passed since then as have many changes but what never changed is Jim´s good character, from devoted dad to marriage to Jenni to happy Pop-pop and everything in-between. You will be missed by many but your spirit lives on.

My condolences to the family. Jimmy and I attended OLSS and Holy Spirit. The obit, especially his early years, was spot on. His later adventures in life will give you wonderful memories. May God grant him eternal rest and peace to the family.
