John Hawkins Obituary
September 11, 1933 - October 30, 2025
John "Jack" Hawkins, a 92-year-old resident of Laureldale, Hamilton Township, N.J., passed away on October 30, 2025, at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by Emma, his devoted wife of 73 years, and his loving family.
Born in Hammonton in 1933 to John S.R. Hawkins and Marie Hawkins Steeb, Jack lost his father when he was just two months old. He embarked on a long and successful career at New Jersey Transit, culminating his tenure as the Station Master of the Atlantic City terminal.
Jack was predeceased by his siblings, Peggy Off, Geraldine Kline and Dr. Robert Steeb. In addition to his wife, Emma, he is survived by his children, Gail Jones (Paul who passed away recently), Jackie Stiles (Lew), John (Doris), Robert (Debbie), and Kim (James); as well as his brother, Paul Steeb. He was a proud grandfather to Michael, Brian, Todd, Christina, Emily, Stephen and Kerri; and he is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jack had a deep passion for the outdoors and found immense joy in camping, fishing, and traveling with his family. He held a special fondness for both the Catskills in New York and West Virginia. In his garden, he found solace and pride in his tomatoes, which he cultivated with great care.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 5th, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5021 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, N.J., where a Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Burial immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jack's honor to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5021 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, NJ 08330.
