John J. McDonald, age 96, of Ocean City, N.J., passed away on July 2, 2025. Born in Philadelphia on February 6,1929, to the late Joseph F. and Helen (nee Green) McDonald.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Agnes "Jane" (nee Cocco) McDonald, and one grandson, Brice Frazer.
Jane and he lived in Huntington Valley, Pa., prior to moving to Ocean City in 1988. John was employed at Sears, Roebuck, headquartered in Philadelphia, in 1945 as a part-time employee during his senior year at Northeast Catholic H.S. and retired from Sears after 42 years, rising through multiple positions to Regional General Manager of 400 Catalog stores in the Eastern United States. His tenure with the company included two years of service in the Army during the Korean War.
During his retirement he worked part time for the City of Ocean City at the 46th St Post Office for 11 years. He served on the Board of Directors at the Ocean Reef Condominium Assoc., director of the Ocean City Senior Couples Golf Group and director of the Tuesday Mens Seniors Golf League.
Surviving are five children, David (Antoinette) of Weatherly, Pa., Kathleen Frazer of Cherry Hill, N.J., Patricia (Joseph) Molyneux of Fair Hope, Ala., Jacqueline (Edmund) Liguori of Barnegat, N.J., and Susan McDonald of Ocean City, N.J.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on July 10, 2025, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church of St. Damien Parish, 40th Street at Asbury Avenue in Ocean City, N.J. There will be a visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. followed by A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
