Joseph Evangelist Ph.D.

Joseph F. Evangelist, PhD. Born in Egg Harbor City, NJ December 12, 1934 passed on December 10, 2024 in Hayward CA. Known to all as "Uncle Joe" graduated from St. Nicholas Elementary School, then Egg Harbor High School with honors, St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia for a Master's Degree. He began a long and professional career with the Federal Government starting with military service drafted into the Army after completing his Master's to teach at the officers' training school in Washington, DC. Honorably discharged from the Army to his first civilian job within the Federal Government with the IRS followed by HUD, USDA appointments until he settled into the Executive Office of the President, Office of Emergency Management, White House, Washington, DC. Joseph worked as an auditor up through the ranks to Inspector General spanning the terms of President Eisenhower until retirement under President Ford. Brought out of retirement by the Carter Administration, sent to San Francisco, California as Region Director IX, Department of the Treasury Inspector General until retirement again after 3 1/2 years. Liking the weather he remained in California, residing in Hayward completing a PhD in Engineering, University of California Hayward. During his leisure time he enjoyed fine food, travel, classical music, and good company. Never married, he is survived by a sister and nieces and nephews. Pursuant to his wishes there was no ceremony and burial was private. In lieu of cards and flowers a donation in his name to Scholarship Fund St. Joseph University, 5600 City Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131.
