Josephine A. Barr

passed away peacefully at Spring Home at Galloway, on November 1, 2025. Daughter of the late Joseph "J.J" and Maria Mazza, she was born on August 11, 1928 in Nesco, NJ, and moved to Hammonton at age 13. She attended Hammonton School. She went to work at age 16 in many tailor shops in Hammonton, the last one being National Garment Co., where she worked for over twenty years until closing. She also worked as a seamstress at The Trump Castle. She was a member of Hammonton High School PTA and the Hammonton High School Band Boosters Club. She moved to Galloway Township in 1990 and joined the Mid Atlantic AARP, where she was Secretary for 12 years. Josephine joined Pomona Seniors and was Secretary for 12 years and volunteered at Reeds Road Schools L.I.F.E Program. She enjoyed Absecon Community Center and Galloway Senior Center where she played games and had lunch with friends. Josephine was most known for her baking, especially her cookies, which were her favorite. She loved cooking and having big family gatherings. She enjoyed planting flowers in her yard and mowing her lawn until she was 80 years old. She also enjoyed making candy and stuffed toys for the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital Sew Club. Crocheting afghans, lap robes and dish cloths were among her specialties. Above all, she cherished helping to raise her two grandchildren, whom she adored. Josephine is predeceased by her husband, Allan H. Barr; parents, Joseph and Maria Madia Mazza; siblings, Dominic, Anthony (Carol), Angelo, Frank, Joseph (Mary Jane), Santo Mazza, Mary Santucci, Angelina Amoriello (Michael), and Rose Bertino; daughter in law, Connie Merlino, and her longtime friend Betty M. Scottino. Survived by her son, Joseph B. Merlino; daughter, Linda M. Florence; grandchildren, Brad J. Florence (Samantha), Briana L. Florence; great grandson, Matteo C. Florence; sisters-in-law, Nancy Mazza, Celia Merlino and Jayne Merlino. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Monday, November 10, 2025 from 9 to10:30 a.m. at Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third Street Hammonton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish St. Joseph Church 3rd & French Street Hammonton, NJ Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 248 S. First Rd.
