KENNETH SCHROTH Obituary

SCHROTH, KENNETH WILLIAM 61 - passed away April 25, 2012 at home with his family after a brief illness. A resident of Galloway, New Jersey, he was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Kenny was a 1968 graduate of Liberty High School, received his associate's degree from Northampton Community College and attended Kutztown College. From 1964 through 1979 Kenny was the drummer for the band, Uproar, who performed primarily in the Lehigh Valley and at the Jersey shore, eventually becoming the house band for the Gables in Margate, New Jersey. One of his proudest achievements was co-writing the song "Love Will Never" with Jonathan Cline which made the top 100 charts in 1976. Affectionately known as Gummo to his co-workers, he began working at the Golden Nugget in 1980 and remained there, through many owners, until the time of his death. While employed there he joined other co-workers to form the band Rat Pack, and then the Hiltones, performing in many company and citywide talent shows. He was also an avid member of the company bowling league. Kenny was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth Howard Schroth and Marjorie Kern Schroth. Left behind to cherish the memory of him are his loving wife, Janice, and son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Britton and Zoe Schroth, along with extended family and too many friends to count. Visitation will be Monday, April 30th from 5 PM until 8:15 PM at Beacon Evangelical Free Church, 420 S. 6th Ave., Galloway, NJ with a service to begin at 8:15 PM. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wimberg Funeral Home 211 E. Great Creek Rd., Galloway, NJ (609) 641-0001. For condolences, please visit wimbergfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to the American Red Cross, 850 N. Franklin Blvd., Pleasantville, NJ 08232.

It's ironic that I should receive this email, today.
Just last Friday evening? Tommy Zito & I played
music together, on stage. As usual, we spoke of
missing Kenny. Obviously, a dozen years later?
We still hear him, in the music we play today.

To the Scroth Family and to Kenny's extended family. Kenny was such a positive person he will live on in all the people he has touched, with his smile, his laughter, his jokes , his music , and his wisdom. I know I am a better person for having known him.

Dear Janice,
I am so saddened to read of Kenny's passing. The Schroth's were wonderful neighbors and friends in our Eaton Avenue neighborhood. Kenny brought so much excitement to the neighborhood with his band and many of us followed them throughout the Lehigh Valley. I remember calling the Easton radio station many times requesting they play the record Uproar released. It was a fun time with many wonderful memories. Kenny was blessed with you and Brit and the wonderful life you shared. May those memories bring you comfort. All of you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Schroth Family: My deepest sympahies to all of you. It has been many years since I worked with Kenny at the Golden Nugget or enjoyed our Bowling nights on the GN Leaque. After all these years, I still vividly remember the bright spirit Kenny was. One of the nicest people in the world! RIP Kenny... we will all miss you! God Bless.

Dear Mrs. Schroth and family,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Kenny. You don't know me, but Kenny and I grew up together on Eaton Avenue. Even back in the 50's he was into drumming. Though I did not share that particular passion with Kenny, we did share a love of baseball. Kenny was the first kid on the block to get a color TV, just before the 1959 world series. The kids in the neighborhood all rushed home after school to watch the last couple innings of the 6 game series played between the LA Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox. We all gathered at Kenny's house to experience our first ever viewing in "living color". I also remember playing ball with all the neighborhood boys in a field that Kenny and I set up out behind his house. We played every night after school in the springtime when we got home from Rosemont elementary. Another thing I remember about Kenny was he had the neatest model railroad display of Lionel trains in his basement. I lost touch with Kenny when I moved to my grandparents farm near Cherryville in 1964. Nevertheless, I have fond memories of life on Eaton Avenue and the neighborhood gang of which Kenny was an instrumental part (No pun intended) May God grant him eternal rest and lavish all of you with His unmerited Grace.

Reading Kenny's obit this morning,my heart is crushed and saddened. I first met Kenny at Liberty High along with the rest of Uproar: Tommie, Art,Bob, and Gary,in 1965 and became a true fan overnight . It was a true delight to have known Kenny and his Mother & Father. I'll always remember the weekends at King Arthur's Court.WOW Those were great times we spent together.
Kenny , may you rest in peace and be reunited with Mom & Dad.
Janice & Brit, our thoughts , prayers , and sympathy are with all of you during this most difficult time . GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU !!!

Kenny and I met in the sixth grade at Rosemont Elementary School and we were friends until I saw him last around high school graduation. I can see, based on all the entries, that he remained the same delightful person throughout his all-too-short life. May he rest with all the peace he cultivated.

Janice,

Words just don't do it -- but, I am so sorry to hear of Kenny's passing. He was one of the most honest, loving and caring people I have ever known. You were truly the love of his life and Brit was the best thing that ever happened to him. He loved you guys so much; you were all he was living for. When he was my floor, I knew I was going to have a fun day. When Mike and I worked next to each other and Kenny was our floor -- OH MY GOD!!!! It was truly an insane day. Those are the memories I will always hold true and dear. He IS and WILL BE missed for many reasons. My love to both you and Brit.

As members of Kenny's second family (Hilton) our thoughts and prayers go out to Kenny's first family; Janice, Brit, and Zoe.

Kenny's absence over the past six months has been difficult to take. Knowing that he will not return is truly devastating. Kenny was a bright light in what could often be a dark place. His charm, humor, wit, smile, grace and dignity carried us through everyday. Gummo made it look easy

Kenny lived life on his terms. He enjoyed every minute of everyday. Whether it was family, music, golf, Nascar, or a beer with a friend - Kenny loved life wholehearted. That is an example we should all follow.

Kenny, we love you and miss you. Until we meet again. Peace be with you.

People viewing Kenny's guestbook? Will read about his
personality, his sense of humor, and of his outstanding
musicianship. Me? I will simply go to You Tube and
type in "Uproar People Gotta Be Free". There, on full
display? Will be the personality, and sense of humor,
that everyone is remembering. The full depth of his
musicianship is displayed, there, as well. This is the
way he will be remembered, by band mates like me.
