Kevin Jackson Obituary

Kevin Jackson

Kevin Jackson, of Atlantic City, passed away on June 7, 2024, at the age of 71. Kevin was a proud Atlantic City native, growing up at his grandparents' home on Crossan Avenue in Chelsea Heights. He was raised by his mother, Dinky Baylinson, and her parents (his grandparents), former Atlantic City Mayor Richard S. Jackson and his wife Madge. Kevin attended Our Lady Star Of The Sea, played Chelsea Little League, youth basketball and football, oftentimes on teams coached by his grandfather. After Kevin graduated from Atlantic City High School, he committed to a life of service to the community. He was a member of the Atlantic City Beach Patrol and the Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD) where he served as an identification officer performing criminal investigations and crime scene analysis. His public service while with the ACPD extended statewide giving seminars in crime prevention, conflict prevention, crime scene forensic services and identification techniques. He was recognized for his work nationally. Kevin's seminar in rape and mugging prevention was published worldwide. He was a member of the New Jersey Crime Prevention Officers Association, a Certified Arson Investigator, he was certified by the New Jersey State Identification Association and the New Jersey State Police Bureau of Forensic Services, and he was recognized by the ACPD K-9 Corps for his crime scene service. After retiring from the ACPD, Kevin was hired by the State of New Jersey Racing Commission as a Racing Inspector. He was in charge of the investigation of jockeys, racing officials and Commission personnel at Garden State Race Track. True to his Irish heritage, Kevin was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians serving in many leadership roles, including President of the Officer Thomas McMeekin, Jr. Division and, ultimately, serving the organization as the New Jersey State Vice President. Kevin was close with his younger brother Richard. He was Richard's biggest fan traveling to all of the big fights as Richard became the Profession Karate Association's super lightweight full contact karate world champion. He had four half-brothers, the Baylinsons from Plaza Place; they were Dinky's six boys. Kevin considered the Hurley family of Ventnor to be family. They were always there for him, especially his lifelong friend Karen and Harry's daughter Lauren. He is survived by his brother, Chris Baylinson. Kevin was Kevin, he marched to his own beat, he spoke his mind and if you didn't like it, he didn't care. He will be missed. Condolences may be extended to the family at ghwimberg.com.

Kevin & I met when he started working at the racetrack so that means we were friends for almost 40 years. The last time we spoke was on St. Patrick's Day which is when he told me he about his health issues. He said he'd give me a call when he got settled but sadly that phone call never came. I'm going to miss hearing his voice on the other end of the line with the greeting "What's up?" Kevin was a big marshmallow on the inside and loved his critters especially his orange cat Beans and then there was Dinky, the dog and most recently Ziggy. I loved when he would send me selfies of the 2 of them together. Kevin was indeed a unique individual and someone I was glad to call my friend.

Having played with both Jackson brothers at St. Michael's basketball leagues on their grandfather's team "Dick's Boys", I would agree that Kevin was a real competitor and devoted brother.

Kevin and became friends through a mutual friend. I had always wanted to retire in Ireland and he would talk to me about it.
We both loved dogs we wolf drink coffee and discuss our fur babies. Kevin called it like he saw it and he was always a gentleman with me.
We were coffee buddies from two coasts I was in California and he was in New Jersey. When he was in Holy Spirit he knew some of my friends and got us back in touch.
I had a quadruple bypass surgery and and when he had his heart surgery I would talk to him. He told me that he had to go in for a minor procedure when I last talked with him. I had no idea that would be our last conversation I will miss Kevin and our very late night conversations.
RIP MY friend I will miss you condolences to his family and friends

As the months go by, I miss those phone calls from you that always started out with "hey Peach." Not many people get to share a friendship like we had for over 50 years and I cherish every moment of it. I still talk to you from time to time wanting to share what´s new and what we were both up to. We always reminisced and talked about "remember when" and had some great laughs.
I miss you, Kevin. Until we meet again. You´ll always be in my heart. Karen "Peach" Hurley
