Linda Starkey Obituary

Linda Carroll Starkey was born in Atlantic City, NJ on July 23, 1940. She passed away peacefully on November 12th in Le Roy New York.

Linda grew up on the Jersey shore and attended Atlantic City High School, graduating in 1958. She graduated from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Nursing program as an RN, working at Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton NJ for much of her nursing career. She then transitioned to education, studying Elementary Education at Baptist Bible College Pennsylvania. She moved to Pavilion NY in the early 1980s and taught at the school associated with The First Baptist Church of Pavilion until retiring after nearly 20 years of teaching. She then became a health care aide until the pandemic.

Linda was involved with the support of feral cats and was recognized for her work by AlleyCats.org.

She delighted in the birdlife around her and spearheaded a project to provide feeders and seed to draw the birds to the windows of Le Roy Village Green to delight her fellow residents.

She was also an enthusiastic collector of Titanic memorabilia and an avid Buffalo Bills fan.

She is survived by her sister in-law Judith Starkey and three nieces, Kate Smith, Suzanne Smith and Donna Starkey, nephew Thomas Starkey, grandnieces, Jordan Starkey and Grace Gerard; grandnephews, Martin and Alan Castonguay, Jack Starkey and James Gerard.

She had a great sense of humor and will be sorely missed for her loving kindness, wit and generous spirit.

Linda took care of me at Kessler Memorial in the 70's and being nurse myself I was so grateful to have her at my bedside and in the operating room. I was so unfamiliar with the south Jersey area and so scared and Linda with her skills and communication made me feel safe and secure.
Such a wonderful, caring person who made this
nurse feel I was in good hands. So sorry for your loss of a precious person.

I knew Linda from her Kessler Hospital days when my mother, Lois Press, worked there with her. They were a tight group of nurses! I'm so glad that I got to know Linda and the wonderful, caring spirit that she was! RIP Starkey.

Linda graduated from ACHS with my sister, Barbara Hurtt. They were best friends who attended Chelsea Baptist Church together. We lived down the street on Brighton Ave. I was on FB for quite a while with Linda. Much sympathy to all.
