Loretta Schellinger Obituary

Loretta Y. Schellinger

Aug 18, 1935 - Jun 19, 2024

Loretta, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024, at the age of 88 in Petersburg, New Jersey. Born on August 18, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Loretta's friendly demeanor and nurturing spirit touched all who knew her.

Loretta, a loyal and loving mother, is survived by her devoted children, Ralph I. Schellinger, Jr. (Debra), Kent Schellinger (Mary Ann), Connie Cox (Richard), and Lori Rosell (James). She was the proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Lauren Armour (Keith), Sean Schellinger (Jessica), Kent Schellinger, Jr., Kristin Cockerham (Adam), Rachael Clarke (Scott), Bryce Cox, and Lindsey Rosell. Her legacy includes six cherished great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a caring brother, David Hyman, and a sister, Mildred Pascucci (Robert). Loretta was lovingly reunited in death with her late husband, Ralph I. Schellinger, Sr., whom she married in 1954.

A proud alumna of Cape May High School, Class of 1953, Loretta's zest for life was evident in her involvement with the Green Creek Bethel United Methodist Church and her participation in community groups such as the Dancing Grannies, the Spirit Players, and the Canal Pals.

Loretta's hobbies included sewing, baking, and tap dancing; activities through which she expressed her creativity and care. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of love and treasured memories.

Those who knew Loretta will remember her as the embodiment of kindness, always extending a hand of friendship and support. She graced the lives of many with her vivacious spirit and gentle heart. Loretta Y. Schellinger's enduring influence will be felt by her family and all those blessed enough to have known her.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ, where viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Green Creek Bethel United Methodist Cemetery. Our deepest condolences. We met Loretta when she spent 22 years with our uncle, Jack Fountain, who lived her dearly. She was a lovely, friendly and caring person. May she rest in peace.

To Aunt Loretta´s Family:
You are blessed. She was a remarkable woman!

I, and many of the neighborhood families will always remember her as "Aunt Loretta!"

She let us sing our hearts out on your swing set! She baked the best cookies and chocolate cake! I loved being her mother´s helper when Laurie was born!
I loved her encouraging wisdom and love for everyone!!
I will never forget her beautiful smile and contagious laugh!!!

Please know if I wasn´t living in FLorida, I would have been there today.
Love and prayers to all,
Jeanette Riper Simmermon
