Madeline Cunningham Obituary
May 10, 1931 - October 8, 2025
Madeline Rita Cunningham, nee Sassa, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at her current residence in Galloway. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was a proud graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School. She moved to Pleasantville in 1956, where she and her husband Dan brought up their family and lived for 63 years. Madeline's life revolved around her family, her strong faith in God, and her community. St. Peter Elementary School and Church played huge roles in her daily life. She loved her job as the school secretary for 30 years and as the volunteer librarian. She was also a long-time parishioner, Eucharistic Minister, and events volunteer for the church. She was a smiling and welcoming presence for all who entered St. Pete's. She strove to do small things with great love. Madeline loved to spend time with her family and she adored her grandchildren. She was always happy to cheer them on in their sports and activities. She enjoyed taking long walks on the beach, reading, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and making seasonal crafts for her home and gifts. She was also an active member of her local AARP organization, and a volunteer at the former Our Lady's Residence and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Madeline was predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, Daniel. She leaves behind son, Michael and his wife, Kathy Cunningham of Lexington, Mass., son, Daniel Cunningham of Atlantic City, son, James and his wife, Wendy Cunningham of Lancaster, Pa.; daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Ken Cleary of Red Bank; as well as eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 9:30 to 11 a.m, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon. A funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11 a.m., with a Christian Burial thereafter at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.Adams-Perfect.com. My sincerest condolences. I have such fond memories of Mrs. Cunningham as the librarian at St. Pete's. She always had the warmest smile, and I always looked forward to seeing her when it was time for our class to visit the library.
