Michael G. Thomas

Thomas, Michael G., - 69, of Longport, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born in Atlantic City on December 27, 1953 to the late Annabelle and George Thomas, Sr. He and his brothers George and Joe were raised in Margate, NJ and attended Blessed Sacrament and Atlantic City High School. When they weren't winning football games for the Margate Colts and ACHS, Mike and his brothers could be found surfing Knight Avenue beach. After high school, Mike studied business at Lehigh University where he developed friendships that he treasured for the rest of his life. Mike and his wife Maryann met in first grade and were friends all through grammar school. They reconnected shortly after college, and it wasn't long before they married and moved to Linwood, NJ to raise their three children. Mike valued family above all else, and his love and commitment to his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family set a timeless example to all who knew him. Mike and his brother George joined their father in the family business at Thomas Company, Inc. Mike was known for his incredible work ethic and unwavering sense of integrity, and the business continued to thrive and grow under his leadership. Mike took great pride when his son Michael decided to follow in his footsteps, and cherished time spent mentoring him and looked forward to their daily lunch together. Mike was a competitive athlete his entire life and loved football, biking, crossfit, wrestling, skiing, surfing, and walking on the beach. His love of sports extended to coaching, and he spent over a decade coaching the Linwood Panthers where he served as a positive role model for countless young lives both as football players and as individuals. Few things brought him greater joy than cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, recitals, and, of course, football games. Mike will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 42 years, Maryann Thomas, their three children: Kate (Jason) Frost, Michael (Julie) Thomas, Jr., and Liz (Matt) Johnson, four grandchildren: Ava, Trey, Jason, and Lila, and his brothers: George (Laurie) Thomas and Joseph (Susan) Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael Thomas can be made to support the Abramson Cancer Center. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 19th from 6 to 8 p.m., at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Rd., Linwood. Wednesday, September 20th, a viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at Epiphany Church, 2801 Ventnor Ave., Longport, followed by Mass at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mays Landing.
