Phyllis Gillece Obituary

GILLECE, PHYLLIS (nee JANNETT) 55 - of Cedar Run, formerly Manahawkin, died Saturday at home. Born in Elizabeth and moved to Manahawkin area 26 years ago. A former Governors Teacher of the Year, Phyllis recently retired from Pinelands Regional School District after a twenty five year career as a schoolteacher, organizer, mentor and volunteer. Phyl held a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.A. as a Reading Specialist from Kean University. She was Chair of the AAUW Grant "Breaking the Cycle in the 21st Century", Coordinator of the "After School Enrichment Program" and Lead Advisor of the Pinelands Experience. She was also active in the Community as a Girl Scout Leader and was co-founder of the Barnegat Bay Barrons AAU Basketball Team. Surviving are her husband of 31 years Bob. Proud Mother of Shannon Marie of Cedar Run and Eryn Elizabeth of Beach Haven. Her Father Ernest A. Jannett of Linden. Sisters Donna Rae Strickon of Sommerset and Laura June Jensen of Bingington, NY, and a brother Robert Ernest Jannett of Kenilworth. A gathering will be held on Wednesday from 9-11 AM followed by a memorial service at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Surf City. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Rena Rowen Education Fund of the Rena Rowen Breast Cancer at the University of PA. Attention Dr. Kevin Fox and or Phyllis Gillece Memorial Scholarship Foundation at Pinelands Regional H.S., Attention Kathie Barbarotta. ?? ?? ?? ??

I had Mrs. Gillece in eigth grade.. 4 years ago.. And I haven't seen her in almost 3 years.. She was the best teacher I have EVER had . . And I know that she will be greatly missed. ....Wish I could be there with everyone to show my repect and love for her ....

mrs.gillece was my 8th grade teacher, who ment very much to me!!!she wasn't just a teacher,but a friend to.She taught me many new things that will never be forgotten!She will always be in my heart..and i miss her so much!!i send sincere condolences to her family!she was the best teacher anyone could ever have..amd still that will never change!R.I.P
