SARA SCHOENEN Obituary

SCHOENEN, SARA 67 - passed away Monday night October 24, 2011 after a four year four month determined battle with ovarian cancer. Sara is survived by her loving husband David, brother, Jay Needle and his family (Bobbi, Max, and Josh) of Allentown, PA., sister Myra of Pittsburgh, and daughter Melissa Rackliff, her husband Jason and Grammy's two special grandson's Noah and Jaxon of Bailey, Co. Sara was predeceased by her parents Mildred and Nat Needle. Sara was born in Alabama and lived in New York, California, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Maryland, and New Jersey. She taught gifted Language Arts at the Westmont Hilltop School District in Johnstown, PA, coincidentally where she attended. Sara also graduated from the University of Michigan with honors. She developed and hosted a children's reading program on WJAC-TV in Johnstown for several years. Sara loved to walk on the boardwalk in Ocean City with David in their matching outfits. Spending time on the beach, reading, and having lunch with her Red Hat group "The Sunny Honey's" were also among her favorite activities. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking cookies for which her family looked forward to immensely. Sara loved dogs and treated her red and white Siberian Husky, Chivas Regal, as a member of the family. She was an avid sports fan. On Saturday's, in the fall, watching Michigan football was the day's priority. Resounding shouts of "Go Blue" and the singing of "Hail to the Victors" would be heard throughout the house. On Sunday's it was the Steelers with screams of go-go. College basketball games when Villanova or Michigan played were always marked on the calendar and watched without fail. Sara was a member of Congregation Beth Israel of Northfield, NJ. Most of all she was a great wife and a special Grammy. Sara was a wonderfully good, compassionate, caring person who always put others needs before her own and despite her illness always was upbeat. Her smile, dignity, and style will be missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services Thursday, October 27th, at 2pm at Cong. Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Road, Northfield, NJ 08225. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a cancer research program of your choice or to Congregation Beth Israel. Arr. ROTH-GOLDSTEINS' MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Atlantic City www.rothgoldsteins.com
