Sue Tomkinson Obituary

TOMKINSON, SUE M. - a long time shore area resident, died Monday, August 6, 2007. Sue returned to college with her husband Jim to become a teacher and taught part time in Long Beach Island Schools for years. Dedicated to community service, Sue was Past President of LBI grade school PTA, SOCH Auxiliary and SOCH Coordinating Council, and LBI Woman's Club. Sue was Past Vice President of the Jersey Shore Branch of the National Association of Parliamentarians, 5th district, and the United Methodist Women of the Manahawkin United Methodist Church, instrumental in World Day of Prayer and a current member of First United Methodist Church of Tuckerton. Sue served on the Board of Trustees and Foundation Board of SOCH, helping to plan the hospital expansion and building of the Old and New Shop. Sue raised money for scholarships for the Manahawkin United Methodist Church and the LBI Woman's Club. Sue and Jim were married for 55 years. Their family includes son, Drew Stratton Tomkinson, and his wife Gayle; daughters, Leslie Tomkinson Karvan, and Wendy L. Strain and her husband Jack. Sue is the loving grandmother to Sean Strain and his wife Jennifer, Jonathan Karvan and his wife Jacqui, and Katina Karvan. Sue was delighted by her great granddaughter Sophia. Sue is survived by her aunt Alice Muchler; her uncle Bob; sister Jill Knowles and her husband Clive and their children. Sue is remembered by her many cousins, friends and neighbors. Donations may be given to First United Methodist Church of Tuckerton and the LBI Woman's Club Scholarship Fund. A Service will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Tuckerton, Tuckerton. Arrangements are under the care of Maxwell Funeral Home, Manahawkin.
