Marcy Joann (Nyberg) Mattson lost her courageous battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer at age 61 in Denver Colorado on December 14, 2024. Marcy lived in and around the Denver area most of her adult life with her family and husband of 27 years Steve. Throughout her life Marcy remained close in her heart to her surviving children and their spouses Joshua (BreiAnn), Brianna (Tom) and Andrew (Kelsey). She was preceded in death by her parents Stewart and Joanna (Manninen), Step-Mom Jean Nyberg, youngest son Jacob and Jacob and Andrew's dad Keith.
Marcy loved her growing family dearly and was especially fond of her five grandchildren (Emmilia, Paul, Jake, Sophia and Gunner) Marcy always looked forward to going home and spending time with her siblings and their families (Russel (Cathy) Nyberg, John Nyberg, Lisa (Bart) Smith, Nicole (Jody) Scheller and Jeffrey Nyberg) Additionally Marcy is survived by her brother and sister-in-law (Brian and Kristy Melodia) as well as many close relatives and friends.
Marcy began her life's journey on July 23, 1963 in West Alice Wisconsin and spent the majority of her childhood living in the Spirit area. Marcy had a variety of early interests and many fond memories of playing with her numerous cousins, friends and fellow classmates. Marcy especially enjoyed roller skating at the Spirit Town Hall, learning to cook family meals on a wood stove and participating in many school activities such as cheerleading, band and choir. Marcy graduated from Prentice High School in 1981 and attributed her immaculate hand writing to Daisy Palmquist an early teacher and mentor.
Following High School Marcy attended beauty school and slowly migrated West eventually settling in Colorado where she raised her family along with her husband Steve. Marcy had many hobbies and interests including; making handmade soaps and lotions, learning how to quilt and sew clothing, learning how to make yummy Jams and Jellies and even obtained a degree in Herbal Medicine along the way. In her early 30's Marcy decided to be come a Medical Assistant and received her AA degree and spent the next chapter of her professional career working in a variety of clinical and private practice settings. Marcy's patients and the physicians she worked for just loved her.
In her free time Marcy had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and explore unique and interesting places throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. Marcy was a very good dancer and had a good time wherever she went. She especially enjoyed going to concerts, plays and even the Santa Fe Opera (and liked it)
One of her all time personal favorite places to go was Sanibel Island Florida where she loved to spend hour upon hour collecting sea shells and hanging out with her sisters. During her time there she went parasailing, snorkeling and worked at perfecting her Margarita recipe.
Marcy was a beautiful person in all the right ways and was truly a unique and special human being. She became a role model of strength and courage for those who knew her well. Marcy will always remain the love of our lives and the light that guides our way forward. We love and miss you Marcy and look forward to the day we meet again.
