Mrs. Angela Rena Anderson Hughes of Chesterfield, Va., was born March 17, 1961, in Richland County, S.C. She was the daughter of Marion Napper and the late Scenova Anderson. Angela entered into eternal rest alongside her loving daughter, Bianca Lorraine Anderson Hughes, and her charming husband, Carl Visher Hughes Jr., on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
Angela was raised in Columbia, S.C., where she lived and attended Richland County public schools. Angela was the eldest of five children and the only girl. She was a pillar of strength to her brothers and enjoyed spending time with them. She was loved and adored by her grandparents, the late Mr. Ben and Annie Mae Anderson whom she loved dearly.
Angela moved to Philadelphia, Pa., when she was twelve, with her mother and aunt, the late Thelma Taylor, affectionately known as "Two-Tee's" or "Aunt Thelma." Angela attended Philadelphia Public School system, and graduated from Simon Gratz High School in 1978. Angela continued her education to pursue a career in the health field; she worked at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for many years while living in Philadelphia.
In 2002, Angela moved to Chester, Va., with her family and started working at Mcguire Veterans Hospital, where she worked up until her untimely death. Angela was full of life and loved to cook and create meals for her family and friends. Angela was affectionately known as "Angie" among her family, co-workers and friends. Angela loved her three children, Demetrius, Carl IV, and Bianca. She also was in love with being a grandmother to her grandson, Jayden.
Angela was a big Philadelphia Eagles fan just like her brother ,Fitzgerald, and enjoyed watching football on Sundays with the guys after church. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Chester, Va., and also Shalom Baptist Fellowship in Richmond, Va. Angela's sweet spirit and bright smile will surely be missed here on earth.
Mrs. Angela Rena Anderson Hughes leaves to cherish precious memories, her beloved sons, Demetrius Jermaine Anderson of New Haven, CT, Carl IV of Chester, Va; four brothers, James, Edward, Ben, and Floyd Anderson, all of Columbia, S.C.; niece, Shanika Young; two nephews, Fitzgerald Young and Emanuel Anderson of Columbia, S.C.; cousins, Robert Anderson Jr., Bobbi-Jean Anderson, Richard Anderson, Annette Anderson, Robert Anderson III, Brian Anderson, Derek Anderson, Jamel Anderson; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
I, Demetrius J. Anderson along with the entire Anderson family, wish to express our sincere and profound gratitude to our many friends and colleagues for all the acts of kindness during our time of bereavement.
Funeral services for Mrs. Angela Rena Anderson Hughes will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015, at the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ, 233 Halifax Street, Petersburg, Va., Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson, Sr., pastor. Rev. Dr. Johnnie Fleming, Jr., pastor of Second Baptist Church, Chester, Va., officiating. Remains will rest in the church one hour prior to service.
Viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
The family is receiving relatives and friend at the home of her uncle and aunt, Robert Anderson, Jr. (Bobbie L. Anderson), 2804 Jolly Lane, Chester, VA 23831 and is also asking them to assemble there at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the service.
