Bryant Wyatt Obituary

Bryant N. Wyatt, Ph.D., born Sept. 6, 1937, to the late Merlin D. and Hazel Charity Wyatt, died Jan. 27.

Dr. Wyatt accepted Jesus as his savior and was baptized at an early age. His education includes a bachelor of arts degree from Virginia State College, a master of arts degree from Boston University and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.

His organizations included membership in Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the American Legion, Scabbard and Blade, and Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Tau Delta honor societies.

He was a captain in the United States Army.

Dr. Wyatt was a professor who taught at Virginia State College (University) for 29 years.

He was a writer, whose poems, stories and critical articles have been published in a variety of literary and other publications.

He retired as a Virginia State University professor that was profiled as an educator and writer in the current 60th Diamond Edition of Who's Who in America.

Survivors include three brothers, Roland L. Wyatt (Cornelia) of Suffolk, Vell R. Wyatt, MD, of San Diego and Armand C. Wyatt (Thelma) of Waverly; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at First Baptist Church, Waverly. Interment will follow in Waverly Cemetery. Dr. Wyatt's remains will be taken to the church the day of the service at 11 a.m. Family and friends will assemble for procession at 11:15 a.m. at 5151 Pleasant Spring Ave., Waverly, the day of the service.

Wyatt & Sons Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling arrangements.
