CHARLES COLEMAN JR. Obituary

Charles E. Coleman Jr. passed peacefully, at home, surrounded by family on August 18, 2015, at the age of 85. Charles was born on May 9, 1930, in Greenfield, Ohio, to Charles E. Coleman Sr. and Susie Jackson Coleman, one of 14 children. After high school, Charles entered the military and earned the rank of Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, serving 22 years. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal by the Department of the Army for his service from 1964-1969. Charles received numerous military awards during his Army career. Charles retired from active duty but continued to serve his government as a civilian for another 35 years as a Branch Chief in the Petroleum and Water Division at the Quartermaster School in Fort Lee, Virginia. Charles resided with his family in Matoaca, Virginia, and was an active community member serving as a Shriner for the Mocha Temple No. 7, Richmond, Virginia. In addition, he was a life-time member of Cedar Grove Lodge No. 17, Greenfield, Ohio, for over 50 years.
Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Jeanne Canady Coleman; parents, Charles and Susie Coleman; brother, Glenn Coleman Sr.; and sister, Estella Jackson.
Charles is survived by four children: Charles E. Coleman III (Brenda); Delilah Coleman Davis (Donald); Keith A. Coleman (Fonda), loving and devoted daughter, Anita Coleman Wynn; and special friends and adopted children, Dale and Linda Tharpe. Charles is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Marcus, Dawn, Keith Jr., Chris, Paul, Lourdes, Israel, Grace, Darius, Krista, and Kyleen, eight great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters and a host of loving friends.
Charles' home going will be celebrated with a family visitation on Monday, August 24, 2015, 6-8 p.m. at the Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, 11 a.m. at the Matoaca Christian Fellowship at 7700 River Road, Matoaca, VA.

Mr. Coleman was a man that cared about people, he always asked when was the last time you seen or talked to this or that person. He was a man that said what was on his mind.
