Charles Joiner Obituary

Mr. Charles R. Joiner Jr., known as C.J., departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at his residence, 15712 Timberline Drive, Colonial Heights, Va.

He was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on May 12, 1938, to the late Charles (Sr.) and Ethel Joiner. Charles later resided in New Haven, Conn., with his six siblings for many years.

From April 1958 through April 1960, he served in the United States Army. He was married in 1972 and then in 1977 he and his family moved to Chesterfield, Va. He was employed with Southside Virginia Training Center (SVTC) until he retired in 2003. He enjoyed fishing, working around the house and helping others.

To cherish his memories, he leaves his darling wife, Jean Joiner; a loving daughter, Sylvia M. Wyatt (Charles); and a devoted son, Harun Joiner; four grandchildren, Charles E. Wyatt Jr., TaQuan Joiner, Zharia Joiner and Chaneise Joiner, all of Chesterfield, Va.; five sisters, Aurelia Turner of New Haven, Conn., Loretta Dickstein (Stewart) of Henderson, Nev., Gladys Joiner of Durham, N.C., Charlaine Nelson of Middletown, Conn., and Gwenette Joiner of New Haven, Conn.; one brother, Douglas Joiner of Atlanta; one aunt, Edith Jones of Yonkers, N.Y.; 13 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family extends special thanks to Emily Masloff and all of the DaVita staff.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the chapel J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Pate Pearson of Community Independent Methodist Church, Chesterfield, officiating.

The family will receive friends at 15712 Timberline Drive, Chesterfield, and may be contacted by calling (804) 526-7413.

CJ will surely be missed. I used to look forward to seeing CJ come into the warehouse at SVTC. We would talk about children, pastimes and just whatever came up. You are in my prayers.
