DAVID MILLER Obituary

Mr. David Booker Miller, age 78, of 3529 Francis Street, Petersburg, Virginia, departed this life on Tuesday morning, November 22, 2016, at Chippenham Hospital, Richmond, Virginia.

Born July 13, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late James Miller and Sallie Wray Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, James, Gordon, Naamon, Alsee, John, Latane and two sisters, Lucille Hall and Minnie Alice Edwards.

Mr. Miller received his education in the public schools of Pittsylvania County, Gretna, Virginia. He matriculated to the Kentucky College of Mortuary Science in Louisville, Kentucky. Upon completion, he started his internship at Community Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Virginia. Mr. Miller was a licensed funeral director and embalmer at Tucker Funeral Home, Petersburg, Virginia, and served as member of the Southside Funeral Directors Association. He was lastly employed as a car salesman with Triangle Dodge, Petersburg, Virginia.

At an early age, he professed hope in Christ and joined the Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Gretna, Virginia. Upon relocating, he joined Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia, where he served as member of the usher board.

Precious memories of David's life are treasured by his wife, Gertrude Miller of Petersburg, Virginia; one brother, Jack Miller (Bernice) of Gretna, Virginia; two sisters, Catherine Miller Coleman and Virginia Womack (John), all of Danville, Virginia; seven sisters-in-law, Lessie Ellis (George) of Petersburg, Virginia, Thelma Hobbs of Dewitt, Virginia, Shelia Tucker (John) of Newark, Delaware, Arnell Miller and Doris Lovelace, both of Gretna, Virginia, Helen Miller of Union, New Jersey and Shirley Miller of Roanoke, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Ivan Johnson (Evelyn) of Dinwiddie, Virginia; two goddaughters, Sydney Turner (Royal) of Prince George, Virginia and Keisha Taylor of Dallas, Texas; his devoted caretaker, Mary Mobley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax Street, Petersburg, Virginia, by Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr. A continuation of his life will be held at Miller Funeral Home, 668 Zion Road, Gretna, Virginia, on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, from 7-8 p.m. Interment will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the Miller Family Cemetery, 605 Edmunds Road, Gretna, Virginia.
