Edward Jones Obituary

Mr. Edward Owens Jones departed this life on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

Mr. Edward Owens Jones, the youngest son of the late Anna and Allen Jones, was born in Dinwiddie County, Va., before the family moved to Petersburg, Va.

He is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Wells, Edith Jones, Nannie Mason, Toreath Sidney, Hazel Archer, Gladys Gregory; and brothers, Joseph and Abraham Jones.

"Eddie Boo" as he was affectionately called, worked for the City of Petersburg for a number of years. He returned to the City of Petersburg after serving in the United States Army during WWII. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service medal with one Bronze Star; the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star; the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Eddie leaves to mourn his memory: his sister, Katrina Edmonds; stepchildren, nieces, among them, Arvita Battle, who cared for him in his last days, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence and may be contacted by calling 804-733-7534.
