On Sept. 11, 2010, Mr. Edwin "Bootsy" Kizzie quietly and suddenly slipped away.

He was born to Marion E. Kizzie on July 11, 1963. "Bootsy," as he was known to everyone, attended the Petersburg Public Schools and graduated in 1982. Bootsy was employed at Rubicon Hope, formerly The Turning Point in Petersburg, Va., where he was known for his dedication and compassion toward the clients. Bootsy also was the team consultant to the Petersburg High School football team and was one of their biggest fans. His heart and support was always with the team.

He will be remembered for his laughter, jokes, and dedication to helping and encouraging others, especially the youth. He accepted and loved Christ and was a true believer.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted mother, Marion E. Brown of Petersburg, Va.; a daughter, Dorian Kizzie of Glen Allen, Va.; and a son, Breon Kizzie of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Adrian Bright (Kenny) of Petersburg, Va.; two brothers, Aaron Kizzie (Annette) of Varina, Va., and David Kizzie (Juanita) of Maryland; a stepsister, Kim Craigen of Hopewell, Va.; an uncle, James Kizzie of Petersburg, Va.; six aunts, Martha Barnes, Jacqueline Roney, Audrey Johnson, Patricia Ward (James) and Ann Riggins, all of Petersburg, Va., and LaBarbara Lawrence (Thomas) of Chesapeake, Va.; a godson, Korey Saunders; nine nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, to whom he was affectionately known as "Uncle Boo;" and friends, two devoted, Rita Moore and Orlando Maple. Edwin Kizzie, gone too soon but never forgotten, we love you Bootsy!

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Third Baptist Church, 550 Farmer St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Leroy A. Cherry, pastor, officiating. The interment to follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

Hey Kizzie,
This note is for you. If you didn't want to buy breakfast Sunday morning, all you had to do was say so. But to leave without saying good bye was so hard for me. Co-worker, friend, and classmate you will truly be missed because I don't have anybody to fuss with on Sunday morning about the newspaper being all over the place and the way you leave the office in a mess. Not only that I will miss the way you always joked and made me smile early in the morning when I felt like going back home and going back to bed. I always will miss you so keep smiling down on me and we will see each other again. And please don't have the sports page of the newspaper all over the place.

Go to a quiet place, if possible.
You can sit, stand, or walk, but keep your back straight so your breathing is not constricted.
If you are sitting or standing, you may shut your eyes, although, if sitting, you might fall asleep. If you keep your eyes open or are walking, focus on the ground about three feet in front of you. If your vision distracts you, pull something over your head (a scarf or shawl) so your peripheral vision is restricted. You can imagine that as you enfold yourself in the scarf, you are enfolding yourself in prayer.
Breathe: listen to your breath until your mind stops racing around.
Imagine the Presence directly in front of you or enfolding you.
Breathe to the Presence; let the Presence breathe back to you.
Bless the Presence. To bless the Presence means to offer to be open to the Presence in such a way that compassionate blessings flow from the Presence through you and out into the world.
Brother in Christ many years that we are second cousins.

The time of Edwin (Bootsie) departure is at hand. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I've kept the faith" (II Tim 4:6-7) To him be glory forever and ever (4:18).
Do we live R lives for what will last
Or for what will fade away?

I am Amanda Hayes.....I was a client at Rubicon Hope this past month. I spent a lot of time with Kizzie right before he died. He had a major impact on my recovery. His love for his work was beyond words. He loved his clients and worked hard to ensure they could have a great recovery. He gave me some of the tools that I needed to come out into the world and make something of myself. He always told us "What you gonna do when Batman shows up at your door?" He was talking about the devil. I truly appretiate and love Kizzie for the impact he has had in my life. I will never forget. May you rest in peace.

I first met Boosie at a family reunion in Petersburg many years ago. In conversation we discovered we knew a lot of the same people in Petersburg, but were unaware we were family. We continued to keep in touch periodically. I can truly say that he had a spirit that could not be contained. I am regretful that I did not meet him sooner in life. RIP cousin.
