Fred Walker Obituary

Fred Daniel Walker departed this life on Dec. 3, 2009, in Colonial Heights, Va.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1923, to the Willie G. Walker and Eliza Tucker Walker. He attended elementary and high school in Dinwiddie County. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent three years in the military. He was employed as a carpenter with Daughtry and Edmonds Contractors and Hicks Contracting. He retired from janitorial service in 1986 from Dinwiddie County Schools.

After his marriage to Vivian Spicely, he lived in McKenney, Va. To this union were born three daughters Maurice, Cynthia and Dolores. He later moved to Wilsons and joined Mt. Poole Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until his death.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Norman, James, Morris and Roscoe; and his sisters Adelle and Ella.

His favorite pastimes were baseball, hunting, farming, and carpentry.

He leaves behind to celebrate his life, a devoted wife, Vivian; his daughters, Maurice Taylor (Melvin) of Prince George, Cynthia Mitchell of Prince George, Va., and Dolores White (the Rev. Dr. Kevin) of Portsmouth, Va.; grandchildren Monika Taylor, Kanesha Taylor, Danielle Baugh-White, Ebony Mitchell, Tony Baugh-White, and Kara Mitchell, Likevin White, Brandon White; four great-granddaughters, Adrianna Willis, Likelya White, Likerya White and Chaunsa White; one sister, Mildred Gill of Capital Heights, Md.; three aunts, Bernice Spicely of Wilsons, Va., Lottie Fowlkes of Maryland, and Sadie Spicely of Portsmouth, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Eddie and Preston Spicely (Millie) of Wilsons, Va.; four sisters-in-law Hilda Bower of Colonial Heights, Va., Arlene Spicely of Petersburg, Va., Martha Walker of Blackstone, Va., Irene Walker of Newport News, Va. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 at the Mount Poole Baptist Church, Ford, with the pastor the Rev. Stephen W. Pugh officiating and the Rev. Arlester Newsome Jr. eulogizing. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel-Joseph M. Johnson and Son Funeral Home, 530 S. Sycamore St. The family can be contacted at 804-458-8653 at the residence of his daughter (Maurice Taylor).
