GEORGE WESTBROOK Obituary

George L. Westbrook Jr., affectionately known as Lil' Man, had a difficult struggle with illness, and although weakened and tired, Lil' Man fought the good fight until Wednesday evening, May 2, 2012, at the Southside Regional Medical Center. Lil' Man was born May 7, 1954, into a small family that grew with love. He was the only son of the late George and Maggie Westbrook and the only brother to his sister, Cheryl Dancy.

He was educated in the Sussex County school system and was baptized at the Calvary Baptist Church, Yale. He resided in the family home at 19507 Gilliam Road, Yale, where he was his mother's primary caregiver for three years before she moved to Cheryl's home, and her eternal rest.

Known and loved for his rambunctious attitude and free spirit, he brought laughter to all those that came in contact with him. Lil' Man left cherished memories with his wife, Dorothy; his sister, Cheryl and her husband Rev. Clyde Dancy; his son and daughter, Tehran and Tynecha Richardson; stepson, Curtis Davis; extended family cousins, Elaine Cooper, and Sadarius Lewis; nephews, Clyde Jr., Corey and Christopher Dancy; stepchildren, Kurtis, Tarjarae, Justice, and Tyler; uncles, Louis (Inell) and Willie (Essie) Westbrook, and Lewis Chambliss; aunts, Louise and Irene Westbrook (who were faithfully by his side); in-laws, Geraldine Martin (George), Viola Spratley (William), Elaine Martin (Wayne) Ruby Spelman (Jamie), Emil, John, Davis, Andre and Ricky Smith; a host of nieces, and nephews of his wife's family; many cousins and friends with whom he shared a close bond.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church, Yale. Rev. Willie Derr, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Westbrook Family Cemetery, Yale. The family will receive friends Monday evening, 7 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg. What's up "LIL MAN"? Man, do I really miss you today & I often think about you, "HALF" & I. The long conversations you & I would have , running errands for you, whether you were home/in the hospital. I can remember the last conversations you & I had in your final week of transitioning. The one thing you ask me to do was, "Kate, take care of my buddy Flynn." Well, today & always, you & "HALF" can take care of each other now until we meet again someday. OUR GOD DID WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO, "HE PROMISED ME, THAT HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF YOU, YOU, YOU & YOU," until we meet again.
TO THE ENTIRE WESTBROOK & DANCEY FAMILY- HOLD ON TO GOD'S UNCHANGING HANDS." LIL MAN IS ALRIGHT & having himself a ball up yonder. YOU ALL JUST STAY STRONG FOR HIM, LIKE HE WOULD WANT YOU TO DO.
