Clarence Paris was my mother's neighbor for the last decade or so. A friendly man or more helpful neighbor could not be found. My mother who is a widower & not in the best of health was most appreciative of his kindness. Clarence was also a real character...full of stories, tales & adventures that were a part of his life. He had a bit of wisdom to share if one was willing to listen. He took great pride in his home, yard & his recent acquisition, his Cadillac. Clarence could also be a persistence fellow. After my step-dad died my Mom kept his old Chevy pick-up. Clarence would inquire about that Chevy for some time. She never sold it to him though. He will be missed, he was a good, decent man.

I greatly admired Uncle Clarence. He was like a second father to me. He always stopped by my mother's house on his way to Florida especially when Aunt Becky was still alive. He always spent a few days at my mother's house visiting and my mother looked forward for his visits especially after my father passed away. Uncle Clarence liked to tinker with things and always fixed things for her while here in Savannah. He was a real handyman. Uncle Clarence always had funny things to say and had stories to tell. I greatly enjoyed it when he came down. After the 8th Air Force Museum was built, we would go there when he came down. Since like my father, Uncle Clarence served with the Army Air Corps during the second world war, Uncle Clarence like to tell me about his experiences during the war especially in Italy. Once while he was down here coincidently, a B-24 bomber was on tour. The very one that Uncle Clarence had his name displayed along with others on the plane. It was a real thrill seeing a real bomber and being with someone who could tell me what it was like to fly in one. During the late 60s and 70s, I spent most of my summers in North Carolina we would always try to visit Uncle Clarence and Aunt Becky for a day or sometimes we stayed a few days. We also got to see my Uncle Charles and Aunt Judy and the girls. I fondly remember the time Uncle Clarence took me and my cousin Jeff to Richmond to the museum. We also stayed with them when I was small while my father was overseas. Uncle Clarence liked to make fun of the accent I had at that time.
I will always have fond memories of Uncle Clarence. I will deeply miss him.

I so loved hearing Henry's stories about his experiences during WWII. It was such a pleasure getting to know him during the Colling Foundation's visits to the area. Henry, you will be greatly missed!

Another one of my old friends from Colonial Heights has gone home. He and Becky are among some of my fondest childhood memories. My world is sadder because they are not here any more. Whit, your parents were special people.
