HERMAN WASHINGTON Obituary

God's perfect will has once again been manifested in our lives as He has summoned our beloved, Mr. Herman D. Washington, of 3225 Loganwood Drive, South Chesterfield, Va., from life to eternal life on Monday, July 7, 2014, at 7:45 p.m., at the Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center, located at 1601 Broad Rock Blvd. in Richmond, Va.

Herman confessed Christ as his personal Savior at a very early age and was baptized at Providence Baptist Church in Prince George County, Va. He was educated in the Prince George County Public School System. Herman demonstrated his civic duty and loyalty to his country as he served in the United States Navy for 3½ years. He began his employment with Defense General Supply Company (also known as Bellwood) and remained a loyal, faithful, dedicated worker for 29 years until his retirement. Upon retirement Herman worked part-time with Hanover Security until his health began to fail.

Herman was a former member of the Royal Lodge #77 of Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World (IBPOEW), Petersburg, Va. Herman was well known for his preparation of delicious food for any given holiday and loved to prepare wonderful dishes for cookouts. He was a master caterer for many weddings, birthday parties and special events. Herman could fix, cook and prepare any dish to your heart's desire.

We will dearly miss his loving presence among us, but thanks be to God, though he is absent from his tired, weak physical body, his soul is present with the Lord!

Herman leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving and devoted wife, Catherine Saunders Washington; three daughters, Doris Coulthrust (Eric) of South Carolina, Angela Gilbert (Robbie) of Alabama and Celestine Day of Petersburg; one devoted son, Larry D. Washington (Mavis) of New York; one stepdaughter, Carnita Stewart of Petersburg, Va.; one adopted daughter, Beverly W. Harris (Milton) of South Chesterfield, Va.; one adopted son, Earl Williams (Denean) of Richmond, Va.; one devoted sister, Lucille Wells of Washington, D.C.; numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Rosa Washington of South Carolina, Melinda Adams (Ernest) of Prince George, the Rev. Catherine and family,

Family, be encouraged in Christ. Catherine, thank you for all that you have done for Uncle Herman.

When I think of Uncle Herman two things come to mind: First, I cherish the joyous times and conversations Uncle Herman and I had as co-workers at Bellwood (warehouse # 60) and second, every time I saw him, I had memories of by my father (Lee Sr.). It is always great thinking about dad.

When things get tough; which they probably will, think on these words: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

We love you.

Uncle Herman will definitely be missed. His smile, his love of cooking, the way he would always put a smile on my face, his love of cashews. I could go on and on. He is resting in paradise with my daddy, grandma and all of his other siblings.

Much love

Uncle Herman will be truly missed! Some of my fondest memories as a child, and as an adult, are with him. We could always count on him to put out a "spread" for the holidays! Uncle Herman always had a jovial spirit and said something hilarious to make us laugh! Let us not forget the DEER head on the wall!Let us honor his memory through his kindness, love of life, and good old fashioned recipes. Washington Clan, ..."Be Strong and of Good Courage.." Joshua 1
