Howard Brooks Obituary

Howard Francis Brooks, 79, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Lennie M. Sr. and Emma F. Spain Brooks, and was preceded in death by three brothers, L. Morris Brooks, L. Elwood Brooks, and Richard F. Brooks.

Mr. Brooks was a member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, where he has served as a deacon for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired electrician with Virginia Power.

Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 23 years, Anna Brooks; children, Clayton D. Oliver Jr. and wife, Christa, of Dinwiddie, Keith B. Oliver and wife, Melissa, of Prince George, and Tamara S. Wilson and husband, Rick, of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Jessica Emory, Marcus Emory, Alyson Beacham, Matthew Wilson, Brandon Wilson, and Ricky Dale Wilson; a great grandson, Lukas Price; and a sister, Shirley B. Wright of Colonial Heights; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Rev. Edward Bellis officiating. Interment will be at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, 1201 Blackstone Ave., Hopewell, VA 23860 or to the Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Rd., Suite E, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.

Anna and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Howard was a great guy. I know his suffering is over and he will rest well now. You took very good care of him and you deserve to rest now too. He would want you to. If I can help, call me.
