James Jacobs Obituary

James Taylor Jacobs Sr., 81, of Colonial Heights, Va., died of complications from Parkinson's disease.

Mr. Jacobs was from Wheeling, W.Va., and was preceded in death by his parents, David Reese Jacobs and Grace Martha Jacobs, and his brother, Melven David Jacobs of Fremont, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Mabon Jacobs; children, James T. Jacobs Jr., Karen L. Edmonds; four grandchildren, Joshua N. Jacobs, Jamie L Jacobs, Amanda R. Edmonds and Chasity L. Fout (Marshall Fouts); two great-grandchildren, Dustin M. Fouts and Aaliyah N. Jacobs.

Mr. Jacobs was a retired veteran of World War II and retired merchant. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd-fellows, Stanardsville IOOF Lodge #190, Hannah Rebekah Lodge # 17, Ambler Morris Encampment # 22, Lynchburg Canton # 16, was a Past Grand Master of the Odd-fellows of Virginia, past Grand Patriarchs of the Grand Encampment of Virginia, past Department Commander of the Canton of Virginia, member of American Legion #284, member of V.F.W. Robert E. Lee Post 2239, past Commander of V.F.W. McNair Trueheart Post 622, member of Fraternal Order of Eaglse # 882 and was a member of Highland United Methodist Church 125 E. Westover Ave., Colonial Heights, Va.

The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Blandford Cemetery.
