Jerry Lamont Burrow
Mr. Jerry Lamont Burrow, affectionately known as "Burrows", transitioned from this life and entered eternal rest on Friday, May 7, 2021. He was born on October 11, 1971 in Richmond, VA, to Edna Burrow, but spent his younger years living in Colorado Springs, CO.
Jerry received his education in the Petersburg Public School System. Later, he went on to Potomac Job Corps Center in Washington DC, where he received his GED and his Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate. He worked several nursing jobs throughout the years until his health declined. He was also a dedicated employee for Cantu Food Service at Fort Lee, VA. Jerry accepted Christ in his life at an early age.
Jerry was known for being the "jokester" of the family. He loved listening to all kinds of music, riding around the town, and telling jokes. He was our family go to man, he was the handyman, the plumber, the babysitter, or anything we needed him to do at the time. If you needed help Jerry would help you. He also loved spending quality time with his nieces and nephew and his best friend, Josh, and his mama. Jerry will always be known as a "mama's boy."
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Louise Jenkins Grant; grandfathers, Robert Burrow and Troy Grant; three aunts, Gladys Smith, Mary Wynn and Ella Wilkins; two uncles, Rossie Grant and James Grant; and four cousins, Melvin Jackson, Tyrone Jackson, Rev. Joseph C. Wilkins, and Ernest Greene.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted mother, Edna Burrow of Petersburg, VA; one daughter, Tyeisha Sykes of Suitland, MD; one granddaughter, Zaiyah Muhummad and one grandson, Zakai Muhummad of Suitland, MD; a devoted loving sister and caregiver, Frenchie Burks (Josh), four devoted nieces who helped take care of him during his declining health, Quanajaé Mountcastle, Jimmeyllé Jones, Salinah Burks, and J'Sha Burks all of Petersburg, VA; his one and only devoted nephew, Kaleeal Lee of Petersburg, VA; four aunts, Iris Epps (James); two devoted Janie Wiggins (Franklin) and Dorothy Jackson all of Petersburg, VA, and Evelyn Dancy of Sierra Vista, AZ; and one uncle, Robert Grant (Vera) of Petersburg, VA. Jerry also leaves to cherish his memory numerous cousins, among them devoted KyeAsia Green, Troy Kershaw, Ella Massenburg, Tammara Wilkins, Marvin Wilkins, Shaneka Lyons (Andre), Richard Massenburg II, Jakwon Hawkins, Sherry Green, Carmen Powell, Artenna Hinton, Sherrill Marshall, Donald Smith, Thomas Grant, Shaunté Grant, Hortense Mayberry, Darrell Marshall, Trey Wilkins, Crystal Wilkins, Sylvia Barlow (Edward), Lisa Hill, Tony Greene, Denise Greene-Piggee (Freddie), Gloria Lilly, Phyllis Anderson (Walter), Charles Smith (Kim), Verna Dancy, Roenia Grant, Wanda Meadows (Abrom), Artenna Young (Rasheem), Demetria Grant, Ann Avery, Robbie Grant, Charles Grant Avery, and Angela Brown; also a host of friends and co-workers, Antoinnette King, Monique Johnson, Sheila Johnson, Regina Stith, Samiri Williams, Giovanna Poindexter (Gigi), Gabrielle Rives, Janasjia Vassor, Tasha Harris, Gail Taylor, Jane Williams, Mr. Wilson, Chris and Roderick.
A special thanks to the staff of Capital Caring Health Advanced Home Care and Hospice and Nurse Karen, for all the special care provided to Mr. Burrow during his time of need. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Charles Miller at Johnston Willis Neurological Associates and Dr. Yogesh Gandhi at Virginia Cancer Institute for all your support.
Services will be held 3:00 P.M., Friday, May 14, 2021 at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Pastor Damion T. Batts, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
