Larry Young Obituary

Mr. Larry Darnell Young (Buster or By), 56, of 20401 Ravensbourne Drive, Ettrick, departed this life on Oct. 21, 2010 at the Medical College of Virginia.

He was born in Hopewell April 9, 1954, to Gertrude Blake and James E. Young Sr. Larry was a graduate of Hopewell High School and as a child loved to play the trumpet. He received Christ at an early age and was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Petersburg under the leadership of Pastor Blanding. He was employed at Hercules for 17 years and Boers Head until his declining health. He was spirited, compassionate and had a heart of gold. He would give his last to help others, believed in family unity, loved the Lord and his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted children, Larry Young Jr. and Lakeisha Young; his loving and devoted mother, Gertrude Blake; his father, James E. Young Sr. (Sheila); his dedicated stepfather, Dewey Blake Sr.; three brothers, James E. Young Jr., Sgt. Maj. Dewey Blake Jr. and Kendrick Young; six sisters, Sherrie Johnson, Darlene Hurrye, Carlene Coleman, Iris Joyner Elton (Elton), Tammy Birdsong (Robert) and Shanielle Owens (Darrell); his two adorable grandchildren, Jaylen and Latravis Young; a devoted and caring companion, Nadine McKeever; and his devoted ex-wife and mother of his children, Gail Young; five aunts, loving and devoted, Marie Jones, Dorothy Bailey (Lloyd), Pearl Stewarts (Paul), Martha "Shirley" Howard and Mary Ward; two great-aunts, Marie Bennett and Arlene King; three uncles, George Jones, Robert Young Sr. (Shirley) and Tyrone Young Sr. (Carrie); a sister-in-law, Susan Young; brothers-in-law, Herbert Brown, Robert Johnson, James Coleman and Sherman Hurrye; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends, among them are devoted friends for many years, Melvin Peterson, Louis Mosby, Vera Powell, Teresa Tyler, Pearl Pearson and William Spratley (Bugs).

A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Hopewell, where the pastor, the Rev. Joseph Morrison will officiate. Interment will follow in Lebanon Baptist Church, Disputanta. Condolences may be sent to www.blandenterprisesinc.com.
