Leland Childs Obituary
He was employed by Duck's Locksmith in Colonial Heights.
Mickey is survived by his parents, Leland Wayne Childs Sr. and Betty Barnes Childs of Colonial Heights; brother, Johnny Wicks and wife, Carol, of Church Road; sister, Mindy Caison of Colonial Heights; niece, Jordan Casion; nephews, Josh Wicks, John Wicks Jr. and Chris Cornett; uncles, John Barnes and wife, Noreese, and Pete Barnes; fiancée and the love of his life, Melissa Smith; his cat, Squeaky; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Rev. Michael Moore officiating. Interment private. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. the day of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Mickey. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.

Wayne I was so saddened to here of Mickey's passing. May God give you and your family the peace and comfort you need to face these saddened days. Mickey was so full of life and fun to be around. I pray that God will just lift up your whole family through it all. My dear friend Mindy, I cannot begin to know how you or any of your family must be feeling during this unfortunate time in your lives. I do know that God is in complete control. We will never understand (in this life) why God chose to take Mickey at such an early age, but I know His reasons are justifiable. Only God knew what Mickey was truly going through and what he was dealing with. God never puts more on us than we can handle. Mickey is at rest and at peace now; a comforting peace that he could only experience in the arms of God. As hard as this may be, let this situation be a celebration of life; the life of a great brother and now a guardian angel who will always be there by your side, in your heart and in your mind. Treasure the memories that he left for you.I love very much; you are in my heart and in my prayers.

Mr. and Mrs. Childs, Mindy had told me the about Mickey Passing on Monday morning before I went into work. It's is all I thought about during work! I know I haven't seen you guys in a while, but I have fond memories of you both and have the utmost respect for all that you do for your kids and grand kids. We were just his neighbors but Mick earned a special place our hearts. We have grown to love him over the last nine years and we will miss him so much. We keep looking over to the house hoping that he will come out and give us that million dollar smile of his or just wave hello. We will miss him so. Boss Man Wayne and Childs family I am so sorry and heartbroken to hear about Micky's passing. I had lost touch after he left the plant. And I was so glad to have run into him at Ducks. Mindy and Johnny it has been years since I have seen both of you but it seems like only yesterday when we all played together and Mickey was always the one to be the daredevil. I still remember it was nothing he would not try to do on the trampoline if he was given the chance. Please know you are both in my thoughts and prayers during this tough time.
