MYRA WOODS Obituary
The only child of the late Mabel W. Farley and Samuel Webster, Myra was educated at George Washington High School in New York, NY and West Virginia State College in Institute, WV where she was captain of the swim team. Myra's husband of 32 years, William H. Woods, preceded her in death. She worked for 20 plus years as a Secretary at Virginia State College (now known as Virginia State University) and in the Petersburg Public School system.
Myra had an upbeat spirit, infectious personality, and was always smiling. Fun was her mantra and she never let any moss grow beneath her feet. She was a member of the National Association of Letter Carrier's Auxiliary 1980, the Wednesday Afternoon Pinochle Club, and the Rosemond Smith Women's Senate of Zion Baptist Church. She also found the time to line dance with the Senior Circle, Sit & Fit at the Petersburg Public Library, swim and practice yoga at the YMCA, as well as paint with her fellow artist friends in Sheila Holland's Tuesday art class at the Globe.
To cherish her memory, Myra leaves two daughters, Crystal Woods-Butts and Karen P. Woods Banks; a son-in-law Bryan A. Banks; two granddaughters, Jazmine R. Butts and Celeste C. Banks; two bonus grandchildren, Shamica L. Butts and Rashawn S. Butts; a host of cousins and friends.
Services for Mrs. Myra W. Woods will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Zion Baptist Church, 225 Byrne Street, Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Michael E. Shannon, Sr., Pastor, and Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., Pastor Emeritus, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

I have such happy memories of Myra. She was always joking and smiling. She was truly a lover of life! She will be truly missed but the family is comforted in knowing that she is in Paradise with her beloved husband, Bill and we will see her again!! We look forward to that Great Getting' Up Morning!!

Crystal, Karen & grand daughters, I was shocked to hear of Myra's passing. She seemed to be such a quiet person. I was not in an auxiliary with her but I do remember that she worked on campus at Virginia State. Somehow I remember her being a great dancer but I cannot remember the source.
