Rickey Reese Obituary

On Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2009, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one, Rickey Ricardo Reese, at his residence in Disputanta, Va.

Rickey R. Reese was born Feb. 18, 1953, in Richmond, Va., to Herman Reese Sr. and Floresa Reese. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Reese Sr.; mother, Floresa Reese; nephews, James Kevin Hill and Jarvis Lee Hill.

Rickey was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church, Disputanta, and was a lifetime member.

Rickey attended Prince George Public Schools, where he played basketball and baseball. He graduated in the class of 1972. He was also a member of the Virginia Tri-City Baseball League in 1977.

Rickey served in the U.S. Army from 1972 through 1976. He attended Virginia State University and later was employed with Brenco in 1988. He remained with Brenco in an extended disability status since 2003.

Rickey was a very devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, father figure and friend to all who crossed his path. But most of all he was a devoted Christian.

Rickey gave selflessly to all of his church family and the community. He was an active advisor to the youth of First Baptist, as well as providing van transportation for all church engagements. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Disputanta. He was a dedicated servant whose favorite statement was "I don't need a title, I'm just here to serve wherever needed".

Rickey leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Kimberly Reese of Hopewell, Va., Angela Jones and Diona Jones of Disputanta, Va., Desiree Jones of Japan; one son, Rickey R. Reese Jr. of Disputanta; two foster daughters, Delphine Jones-Seckmen (Craig) of Matoaca, Va., Rasheika Shamberger of Hopewell, Va.; three sisters, Ann Saunders (Paul) and Donna R. Williams (Larry) of Disputanta, Mattie Morgan of Waverly, Va.; one brother, Herman C. Reese Jr. (Valanda) of Petersburg, Va.; one foster brother, Garry Reese of Afghanistan; two granddaughters, Raveen Reese and Alasia Jones; one grandson, Troy Allen Jr.; four foster grandchildren; 10 aunts, Mabel Noel, Geraldine Hunt, Oakie Monroe, Lorraine Reese (Ronnie), all of Cincinnati, Carrie Green and Alice Taylor of Hopewell, Va., Ruth Monroe of King George, Va., Clarina Reese, Gloria Reese, Clarina Monroe of Disputanta, Va.; five nieces, Jean R Hill-Atkins, Joycelyn Briley, Wgnette Kelly (Terry), Keyanna Wyatt and Dawn Saunders; five nephews, Alonza Reese, Brian Williams, Russell Hill, Troy Reese and Larry Brandell Williams; a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends; plus long-time devoted friends, Oliver Jackson of Disputanta, Martin Dennis of Disputanta, Va., and Joe Forehand of Hopewell, Va., and Vince MooGalian of Dinwiddie, Va.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at First Baptist Church, Disputanta, with Dr. J. Alfred Reid officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:45 a.m. until the hour of service. Relatives and friends will assemble at the residence, 14113 Arwood Road, Disputanta, at 11 a.m. A video tribute may be viewed at the funeral home and online at www.tuckerfuneralhome1969.com.
