TyQuan L. Johnson

TyQuan Leuntra "Quan" Johnson of 218 Virginia Ave., Wakefield, Va., answered the Master's call on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Norfolk Sentara Hospital. He was born in Richmond, Va., on March 20, 1994.

TyQuan was an awesome young man who was admired and loved by everyone who knew him. His charming, fun-loving personality and mesmerizing smile was infectious. TyQuan was not only a talented athlete who excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was also a stellar student and maintained a 3.8 GPA. He was a member of the National Beta Honor Society as well as the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps where he displayed strong leadership skills.

TyQuan was a 2012 honor graduate from Sussex Central High School. Through his diligence, commitment and desire to succeed, he was awarded several academic scholarships and planned to attend North Carolina Wesleyan College in the fall.

TyQuan was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Mervin and Florine Morgan; and maternal great-grandfather, Clarence Bain Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a proud and loving mother, Katina White of Wakefield; proud and supportive father Leon Johnson Jr. (Ann) of Hopewell; maternal grandmother, Evon White (Melvin) of Surry; maternal grandfather, Clint Bain of Waverly; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Johnson Sr.; and paternal great-grandmother, Ida Burgess, all of Waverly; maternal great-grandmother, Thelma Bain, of Wakefield; three sisters, Tiffany White of Surry, Tykia Cole-Hudson of Virginia Beach, and Kamiah Crockett of Petersburg; two stepsisters, Octavia Harrison of Emporia, and Asausha Atkins of Hopewell; nine brothers, Darius Taylor (Ladele) of Chesterfield, Rucel and Orlandis White both of Wakefield, KeRon Johnson of Courtland, Daray Johnson, Lebron Johnson, and Leon Johnson III of Prince George, Ryan and Jordan Thomas of Surry; stepbrother, Kenneth Wilson of Norfolk; four aunts, Deborah Ellis (Calvin) of Waverly, Ashley and Chavon King both of Wakefield, and Bernice Matthews of Chesterfield; uncles, Anthony Johnson (Mary) of Chesterfield, Marvett White of Surry, and Calvin Saunders (Lena) of Surry; one niece, Kniyah White; three nephews; 17 great-aunts, among them a devoted aunt, Barbara Hill; 10 great-uncles; two great-great-aunts, and a host of devoted cousins and friends, among them Patricia Hill, Demetrice Felts, Tunisha Jones, Tevin Johnson, Briana Ellis, RonLesha Jones, PJ Jones, Jeronte Langford, Jerry Murphy, Jonquis Langford, NaQuan Gray, Shabrae Judkins, Jarod Latham, Delmonte Turner, Anthony Jackson, Ricki Parham, Tee, Nette, Quantae, special friend, Tatyana Calhoun, and devoted mentor and coach, Curtis Jefferson.

A celebration of life will be held today at 1 p.m. at Sussex Central High School Auditorium, Sussex, Va. with Bishop Darren Gay officiating. Interment will be in Booker T Memorial Cemetery, Wakefield, Va. There will be a visitation on Friday, June 15, 2012, at Triumph in Victory Christian Church, 207 North County Drive, Wakefield, Va., from 6 to 7 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at the school at noon the day of the service.
