Sending heartfelt condolence to the George Family! Buddy George, was a pioneer in his work for the people of providence and I'm one of those people who he helped. He was also a humanitarian who cared about people, who took the time out to help all communities especially south providence in getting jobs keeping young people out of trouble. The dropping center comes to mind with the "UPSETTERS" and "Bobby Williams" drilling the team.Buddy did so much for people, he was like a second "FATHER" who made a way out of no way for his people.Thank You "Buddy George" for being the caring person you were, you will truely be missed but never "Forgotten"!Your "GOOD DEEDS" will live on,you shall live because many will speak your "NAME"! R.I.P. "Buddy"!!

April 2, 2012

I met Buddy George through my mother, Fay Dyer. They worked together towards the greater good and to help the South Providence community and people - regardless of color, religion, etc. Buddy was a leader without a title - he found ways to engage, challenge, nuture, and promote young people to develop into future leaders. There are few individuals in this life that truly touch somewhere deep inside to motivate others. Buddy George was one of them. He recognized the talent of others and acknowledged it. Condolences to family and friends. I will keep Buddy's energy and memory in my heart. Sincerely.

My wife Suzy and I send our deepest sympathy to Buddy's Family.
Buddy was the "KING" of South Side. He was the "go to" man; the main man who could get things done with a camera and a smile.
I can remember as a kid and teen, he took me and several others on many bus trips to Mass, Conn, N.Y. etc. He even took us out of town to the Job Corps where our Drop-In-Center basketball team played against theirs. He taught kids to play the bongos, drums and step-dancing. He did everything to keep kids off the street. Buddy was involved in the Fact-Finding Committee and many others and was instrumental in setting up free-live concerts and activities in the Roger Williams Project field and the Afro Arts Center. We saw such fine artists as Curtis Mayfield, the Dramatics, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire etc.
Buddy was a blessing to all and will be sorely missed. I'm sure the Heavens just got a whole lot brighter with Buddy flashing his smile and camera and taking hundreds of pictures.
RIP Buddy! Were sure gonna miss you...

March 31, 2012

To Buddy's Family.
Our deepest sympathy to all of you. May God be with all of you in your time of need. Our families knew each other on the good ole East Side days.
Buddy was a great guy and I'm sure everyone will remember him for all the good he did for the kids on the South Side. He made sure they stay out of trouble by getting them involved with after school activities, basketball, teaching them musical instruments and dances. Many lives were saved and touched because of Buddy.
I worked with Buddy at Progress for Providence and the Edna Frazier Bldg. He was an outreach worker, an activist and served on many committees; where ever he saw an injustice, he set out to amend it. Buddy was known for researching his facts, carrying his camera and having a zillion pictures to commemorate all the many, many activities he was involved with.
We will all miss Buddy's big caring heart and his famous smile which could lighten up a room. May Buddy's sweet soul rest in peace.

Well, another piece of the South Providence fabric has been removed. As my memory serves me, Buddy George was truly a caring person. As I read the comments in this guest book, the common thread seems to be how wonderful a person he was. I ditto this opinion. There are very few men (that were of my era) that I could personally say was a “Gentleman” … in my experience, Buddy George was.

So, South Providence is minus one more of its icons! Here's hoping that there is a huge celebration of his life somewhere down the road. With all the contributions he made to the folks in South Providence, surely there should be some recognition for “Buddy George” please!

Perhaps a street named after him or something that will live on long after us old timers passes on.

I believe Buddy has a huge pictorial record of South Providence …from back in the day. He always seemed to have a camera in his possession. Hopefully, a book of his many pictures [taken] could be put together in his memory. His family could setup a college fund from the proceeds, or contribute to some worthy cause via the Urban League of Rhode Island or the NAACP.

If it is true that we will meet up with those who have gone on before us, Buddy will be meeting up with tons of his East Side, West Side, East Providence, family and friends. I hope my brother; Gilmore Lucas will be among the welcoming group.

To all of Buddy George' family, I send my deepest of deepest sympathy.

My deepest sympathy to all of Buddy's family and friends. He was one of a kind, and will be missed. My best memory of Buddy is my first; when Black, Latino, and Asian American students took over Brown's administration building in 1975, protesting Brown's plan to roll back minority student admissions and financial aid, Buddy somehow found us at a late night meeting on campus. He came to offer his support and (of course) pledged the support of the entire Black community in Providence! We've been friends ever since. Thank you, Mr. George, for your lifetime of activism and dedication to the people. RIP, my friend.

"Fall In" whether on the bus, cleaning up a vacant lot, going to a parade, swimming in Lincoln Woods. . .Buddy was there, laughing, encouraging and guiding us. Even when chastising us for picking on another kid, Buddy had a smile. He didn't allow bullying, made us learn how to look out for each other. Didn't buy into the Southside vs. Eastside or Westside bull. Buddy was a friend to all. A legend and icon. May your spirit live on forever!

Me growing up only down the street from the Drop In center meant I got to hang out alot seeing you do what you do. There a saying it take a village to raise a family. You was that village becasue you help raise and keep alot of family out of trouble , with marching, and drum corp. and party and all that you did. God must of need you home to keep up the good work you did on earth. Rest In Peace. Buddy George. words cant say how folks feel of your passing but know how you change my life and others. RIP Buddy, you will always be remembered and never forgotten.

To Barbara, Rick and other George family members,

Buddy and I were special cousins and we talked over the phone for hours and hours, it was a great relationship where he help me with his tireless efforts on our genealogy for the Clinton-George-Garedo genealogy book.
He and I compiled togehter all of the genealogy to connect my grandmother's paternal line (Clinton) and his lines (George) to uncover the mysteries surrounding of the George family origins. Buddy tracked down all the documents, certifications and sent me countless pictures dating back before the 1900s...he was a true gem and it's a relationship I shall hold near and dear to my heart. He had a great sense of humor and always called my questions, his "next assignments and projects" but he pursued them with great enthusiasm. I'll never forget him and his surprise when I had shared with him the George's came from St. Helena in the South Atlantic islands in 1877, he was just fascinated. I will miss his long distance phone calls always. May you all remember his generosity and his kindness as he was truly a good person who gave of himself unselfishly.

May he rest in peace.

Thank you Buddy for all the sincere help and compassion you showed towards our family genealogy. You'll always be a special cousin to me.

God bless you always.

The way you taught us to stand up for our rights, that smile you wore whenever a victory was won! Fearless Community Activist, hard working, influential, always a great listener.
Thank you Buddy George, your influence on my family and South Side will never be forgotten. To the family my prayers are with you. God bless each and every one of you. Rest in peace Buddy George, John 14:2

RIP BUDDY YOU WILL BE MISSED

Poupie (Andreza) Skipworth

Wow, I can't believe your gone. All those days you hiding behind me while my dog chases after you on Elma Street. Working in your office doing print screens and working at the Fact Finding Committee. I would talk about living on Dudley Street but only my brothers and sisters can really remember them days. But I have fond memories of many years ago and of recent years as you visit me at the Board of Elections. Funny how I ended up working for the elections when all those years you tried to get me into politics and fought you tooth and nail. What's even funnier I am an administrator and still not really into politics. LOL I will miss you my friend :-) The Skipworth Family will miss you. Love you always!

To the family, may your memories of this wonderful, generous man comfort you during this difficult time. Thank you Buddy George for being a champion for all of us in South Providence. I won't forget the work you did on our behalf with the South Providence Fact Finding Committee and Progress for Providence, thank you for the trips to the beach, recording our history in pictures, carrying forward the tradition of the drums, and teaching us how to give back to our community. We were so blessed to have you as part of our lives. You will be missed!
