David Como Obituary

COMO, DAVID M. JR., 48, of Taylor Street, Cranston, passed away at home on Sunday November 25, 2012 surrounded by his family, in the home he shared with the love of his life and fiancée, Linda Carpentier. With remarkable courage, dignity and grace, David faced his terminal cancer and leaves behind a story to inspire and strengthen others. He was a graduate of Cranston HS West and the Fashion and Design Institute in California. He formerly lived in Punta Gorda, FL. He was a talented and inspirational writer, publishing a book entitled, Defying Goliath in 2010, telling his formula for and story of survival from two childhood bouts with cancer. In his leisure time, he enjoyed antique hunting and was an exceptional gourmet cook and he loved creating new recipes and dishes for his family and friends. He will be remembered for his strength and courage and the way he could light up a room with his warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. He deeply loved his fiancée, Linda and their time together on the soft-white beaches and the beautiful sunsets of Siesta Key, Florida. Born in Astoria, New York, David was the devoted son of Antoinette M. (Comella) Truman and her husband, George of Cranston. He was the son of the late David M. Como. In addition to his fiancée, David is survived by his brothers, Louis S. Como of West Warwick and Thomas N. Como and his wife Rebecca of East Lyme, CT; his stepbrother, George H. Truman, III and his wife Barbara, of Enid, OK and his stepsister, Erin K. Truman of North Kingstown, aunts, uncles and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10 a.m. in The Church of St. Mark, Garden City, Cranston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Hasbro Children's Hospital PO Box H. Providence, RI 02901. Visit nardolillo.com for online condolences.

Dear Linda and the Como family,
I was heart broken to hear of David's passing. I hadn't seen David for such a long time until last year when we ran into each other. It was so great to see him. We were very close when we were young. I had so many laughs and good times with David at MHRH and just hanging out at his home. He was a special and unique person. I purchased his book at whole foods. I have had a life long illness also, and reading the book gave me inspiration. He is at peace now. Heaven just received a beautiful soul.

Dear Annette, George, Lou, Tom, and Linda,
What could I possibly say to ease your pain. David is in a better place now. We were all blessed to have him in our lives, to whatever degree, because he has made us better.
His loss is traumatic, but still, remember, he achieved what only few dream too...he conveyed his message ...he told his story...he put his pen to paper and let everyone know that the greatest glory in life is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall...he made a difference...and if I am lucky I will see him again. His friend always, Dean.

I offer my condolences to David's friends and family for the great loss in his passing. As a neighbor, friend and classmate in our teenage years I admired David for his great strength and courage. Having lost touch for nearly 3 decades, a couple of years ago I heard about David's book and contacted him to get a few copies. I was so impressed with the man he had become and with his work as a practical guide to life and an elegant work of art from a great intellect. Little did I know that his book would serve as a useful tool to me personally. A year later my sister was diagnosed with cancer and passed in less than 2 months. This is the definition of a great person; one who positively impacts many others in the world. David's contribution to the world will be a lasting legacy that outlives us all.

David will always be remembered as tremendously gifted, athletic, personable, spiritual, strong, compassionate and upright. On top of that he was a handsome guy that made all the girls swoon. Truly the brightest of stars taken from us too soon. Deepest condolences to the Como, Truman, Greco and Carpentier families.

To Linda and The Como Family
I was deeply saddened to hear about David's passing . David was a wonderful man and a gentle soul , who deeply cared for those around him. He had a smile that lit up a room and he lived life to the fullest . His love for Linda and his family was unstoppable . He was always looking out for the "underdog " . he was a great friend (even if there had been years between seeing him ). Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time . I think David's memory will live in all our hearts forever .
