My dear friend,
Your sudden passing rocked me in a way that it hard to explain. I could not stop crying. For days. I could not go into Cindy´s for about a year. To this day I look for your truck there. For 3 years I could not bring myself to go to the Art Festival. I felt your absence too profoundly. Today was the first time I´ve been to your grave. The first time I felt able to see your grave. Your stone is so perfectly elegant. I feel so grateful and proud that Kyle made it possible for your body to be buried in the Hopkin´s Mill Cemetery. Did you see us there today? Kyle fishing the Ram Tail with his own sons?
You are sadly, sorely missed my old friend. I hope we meet again someday and can pick up our conversation where we left off.

We were so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. We both have many fond memories from "back in the day" and hanging out at The Corner. Mike often talks about how he and Dave and some other friends would decide to drive to NYC just to get a steak. Dave had the best smile and was kind to everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

David, though I didn't know you nearly as well as I would have liked, I want to thank you for the legacy you left behind. Three amazing sons who you took immense pride in. A model of a healthy, happy, and loving relationship as the one you shared with Al. And a spirit of adventure and humor you instilled in your boys. You will certainly be missed. I'm thankful we met though, and thankful that you were father to the man I love. I don't think he could have gotten any luckier than he did with you.

David Shippee's smile will always remain in my heart. My Sister Eileen, Brother Tommy and Brother in law Larry have some of the best stories of them hanging out with David.
How vivid the imagine I have of smiling David all dressed up in a Dress, Wig and High Heal Shoes just because the gang asked him to!
What a great person with a sweet great big smile,
that is how I will always remember David.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Miriam.
Sincerely, Mark & Janice (Roposa) Parrillo

I met David thirteen years ago when I started my job at Adler's Hardware, situated in the heart of the historic East Side and home to David's many customers. Over the years, our conversations expanded far beyond matters of paint and I came to appreciate this gracious and deeply curious man. Although I had never met Allison and only briefly, the boys, I felt as if I knew them, thanks to David's frequent updates. He held great pride and affections for those in his life and I feel brokenhearted that he is gone.

I met David thirteen years ago when I started my job at Adler's Hardware, situated in the heart of the historic East Side of Providence, home to many of David's customers. Over the years, our conversations covered much ground, far and above paint, and I developed a great appreciation for this gracious and deeply curious man. Although I had never met Allison and only briefly, his boys, I felt as if I knew them all through his stories and updates. He had such pride and genuine love for those in his life. The news that he is gone has left me broken hearted.

Dylan, Jared and Grant:
I remember the day each son was born....your Dad was bursting with joy. Over the years he taught you confidence, skills, adventure, fun and gave you love. The day Dad received Uncle's Jeep his thoughts went to his boys and passing on this family legend. He always gave his best and his boys returned the best - "three wonderful gentlemen" - you've made him proud.
Please share my condolences with your Mom who was a big part of raising these gentlemen and she will be by your side as you mourn and reflect on the life of your Dad. My sympathy and prayers to all.

Jane and Miriam:
My deepest sympathy to you and your families. Years go by but memories of my cousins will remain forever. David was an artist with restoration, he was a great Dad who was proud of his boys and he also loved his beautiful sisters. May he rest in peace and we remember how proud he was of the "Shippee" name.
Deepest Sympathy

So sorry Dylan, Jared, and Grant. I know it's hard, but you will have memories every day forever to comfort you. Sorry Diane, too. I know you're there for your boys. Much as we try, we can not be their mother and father, but we can be there for them regardless.
Thinking of you all,

Allison and family. Words can't describe the sudden loss of my friend. I've know Dave since grammar school at Capt. Paine School and kept the friendship my who life. Though at times there were gaps, we always picked up where we left off, usually at the Scituate Art Festival where we would sit on the stone wall and gossip. He restored the house I grew up in even though he wasn't completely healed with his shoulder surgery. That's the kind of guy he was. Always helping. I know he's in heaven. He will not be forgotten.

Dad,
Thank you for always being there for me, Jared, and Grant. For showing us the outdoors and how to have fun. For always having so many good stories. For teaching us the value of hard work and being the best at what you do. You cared for everyone around you and you will be missed by so many more.
Pretend this was written on your typewriter next to Al and Daisy.
Love,
Dylan
