Debra Fain Obituary

FAIN, DEBRA 59, passed away suddenly on June 29th. She was the beloved daughter of Lois Fain and the late Burt Fain, sister of Frederick Fain, and wife of the late musician Paul Murphy. Upon hearing the Beatles for the first time, Debbie just knew she was destined for a life of rock and roll. She became an integral member of the fabric of the music community in RI and all of New England. She was a crew member for Roomful of Blues and then was road manager for The James Montgomery Band for several years, performing with a selflessness usually reserved for saints. She made sure that everyone in the band got exactly what they needed so every show came off perfectly. She got to meet music greats like B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Aerosmith, and Buddy Guy and the bands and people at clubs were like a second family. Debbie loved cats, and the dogs she owned were among the most fortunate on earth. Watching the speed, grace and beauty of race horses filled her with wonder. Animals seemed to quickly understand Debbie and gravitate toward her. She felt blessed by a tight circle of old friends and also had a gift for putting strangers at ease. She was intelligent, sincere, unpretentious and nonjudgmental. Debbie adored her parents Lois and Burt like no others. They were her world, her anchor. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 2, 11 AM at the Sugarman Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope Street, Providence, RI 02906. Burial will be private. Shiva will be held at the residence of Lois Fain Thursday afternoon 2-4 and Thursday night 7-9. Donations may be made to the Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840 or the charity of your choice. For information and condolences visit www.sugarmansinai.com

Lois and Freddy,
Attended Hamilton Country Day with Debbie, also graduating in 1974. She would among the smartest people among a group of already highly intelligent students at Hamilton. I was most impressed by her exceptional knowledge of modern rock music, especially the Rolling Stones.
My heartfelt condolences on Debbie's untimely passing.

Deb was always full of life, always happy, full of smiles and she instilled a sense of adventure when ever we got together. She always reflected on the good. Not once during a visit did Debby also not reflect on her parents, Burt and Lois, she loved them dearly. She made sure to tell us that she loved us and our dogs of course. When she caught a fish, on our last visit, she said "I can't wait to tell my dad!" It made her happy. That is what we will remember. Lois, we are so sorry for your loss.

No words can ever describe the loss I am sure we all are feeling for this unexpected death of a wonderful woman. She has been in my life for over 40 years along with her wonderful parents Burt and Lois which I might add we just lost our Burt only 2 1/2 weeks ago. This is such a tragedy of special lives that were taken away from us that it is unbearable to me and I am sure everyone whom ever had the pleasure of knowing this loving family. Believe me there is a lot of love in this family and I was privaledged to be in their lives and they shared all the love I could ever want! I was so fortunate to have them in my life.
God rest her soul and God bless her mother Lois, her brother Freddy and of course her loving nephew Michael. So sadly she will be missed.

Debbie was my 1st cousin. I introduced her to rock and roll when she was in the second grade. I had a band that rehearsed in my basement, playing the Stones, Beatles, Yardbirds, Kinks and all other other great bands of the mid-60s. Deb was my first and only groupie. She loved music, musicians, and the music scene. and dedicated her life to it. Her death is a loss for us all. Deb's obituary expresses the extent of her impact on those who knew her. And to know Deb was to love her. We all cared for her deeply and prayed she would find the peace she sought. Roll over Beethoven, John, George and all the other music greats. Deb Fain wants to hear you play then take you fishing.
